After dealing with issues of weak signal, and Internet Explorer not working(even when I had 4 bars of signal), I decided to go with the Centro.
The difference in price gives me more Christmas money also. :)

Wow. To each his own I guess, but there is no way I'd trade my Q9c for a Centro. Even if I could save a few bucks. Did you try to exchange your Q9c @ least once to see if you could get one that would make you happy? Sometimes a simple reset can fix a majority of bugs, especially explorer not working correctly. That's rare, very rare. But hey, as long as you're happy that all that counts.

Just waiting for the return to Sprint package. I have had a few PDA phones over the past couple of years and that one was pretty bad. I like the Touch so far, but there is a bit of a learning curve, as with all devices. To each his/her own!

I just traded my Q9 in for a centro myself. I really liked the Q9 but the lack of reliable pic mail was a real deal breaker for me. I also thought that the phone really didnt hold on to a signal very well either.
So far the Cenro has been rock solid and there is no lack of apps for it, thats for sure. I'd prefer a windows phone but I got family all over the country and really depend on the mms.

So many reception complaints about the Q9c. Maybe a bad batch from Motorola?

Very odd also. Considering Moto's bulletproof & sterling call quality from the past upto & including the Q gen1.

The weak signal issue is something I guess I'll be able to confirm in due time (only had the phone for 2 days).... But IE not working sounds like a PCS Vision configuration issue, perhaps... My Q9c's browsing experience has been flawless since day 1. I also compared it at the store with a Touch and Mogul, and it felt snappier. I think having the overhead of touchscreen drivers slows WM6 down a bit.
Sorry you decided to throw in the towel and not try and get the issues resolved. I, by no means, consider the Centro a plausible replacement for a Q9c...
I would've gone with a Touch... Or even a BlackBerry... (but I prefer WM). Maybe it was a case of buyer's guilt and you wanted something cheaper?

i carry two phones.the q9c and a sanyo 8400.we know that sanyos can have strong signals but i am now questioning the amount of bars showing as being pure signal strenght and maybe the motorola taking into account signal quality and tower load.or something like that.my sanyo always shows more bars but can drop down to two and 1 bars while the q stays exactly the same.its been said to not pay attention to bars besides being wary of making a call with no bars.some phones make great calls with one or no bars. and others, two bars gets a choppy reception.

To add to your point, my old Q is still active on a separate line...
The first day I got my Q9c, signal, as indicated visually by the number of bars, seemed to be identical.
Today I noticed something, however... On occasion my original Q would display 2 bars, when my Q9c would display 1 (really bad cellphone blackhole area... Affects Cingular, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Sprint...) The interesting bit was when my original Q would momentarily drop out of service, and then back to 1 bar, and occasionally 2, but then it would drop every now and then completely (searching for signal)... My Q9c has yet to do that in the same spot...static 1 bar, but no drop.
So I think you're unto something with your point/theory.
Another thing to consider is the fact that, just because your phone is able to get a signal from the tower does not mean the tower can receive the signal packets from your phone. Your phone is, afterall, the size of a deck of cards (okay, I'm trying to compare it to something here), and the tower is taller than most people's houses. :)
The Q9c, so far, has perfomed = to or > than my original... I haven't had any episodes where I can conclude it has performed < than.
To stay on topic, I think anyone who experiences any issues with the phone should at least try and get a replacement before giving up... The problem might be isolated to just the one unit. It appears most people are having good luck than bad luck with them... If you recall, the original Q's various issues began popping up within days and most people would complain about them within a week of ownership. The Q9c appears to have a more positive trend following it.

I just exchanged my Q9c. On this new one, all the minor issues I was having with my original that I got the day they came out i.e. reception problems, lousy bluetooth (static), getting sent texts twice, calls dropping out randomly and often, dpad led being burnt out, are ALL GONE. This new one I got (knocks on wood) works flawlessly. I have not a single complaint. Can I recommend if you are having problems with your original Q9c and are within your 30 day exchange window you try another one before you give up on this phone. If you like this phone as much as me, try another one. I can't believe somebody would actually prefer a Centro over the Q9c. That just doesn't make any sense to me. If the Q9c had true picture mail, threaded sms, and a better camera I would call it the perfect phone. I imagine the next revision that Sprint gets (next years model) will be the phone I have always hoped for.:fingers:

Well I have been just using email to send pics. Seems to be working pretty well. You can send to people's phones if you know their carriers address. Say Sprint is *@pm.sprint.com and Verizon is *@vzwpix.com. (thanks to Tbake on that info :tu: ) Still looking for Att and t-mob.

Cool thanks for the info! I am sure i will adapt to the way you have to send picture messages from it. I just got back from the sprint store and looked at all 3 of the phones (touch, q9c, centro) i was interested in and am glad i ordered the q9c yesterday i hope it is deleivered monday like the sprint rep told me....im really excited! the touch was the cool phone but wasnt practical for what i needed, to small and no physical keyboard and the centro while fast through the menus looked and felt like something from toys r us. The q9c had all the features (only lacking the MMS picture mail) and fit every requirement i had plus it sure does look and feel sharp :) Ill be so glad to not have to use my samsung a900m anymore its one of the worst phones i ever had! I could probably sell it but i feel like tying a string to it then tying it to my bumper and dragging it behind my car to pay it back for all the misery it caused me ;) hehe ...

LOl...I feel ya there. I first gotta Q9 and exchanged it for a Centro because of the mms. After a few day of messing with it, my opinion of it was pretty much the same as yours. Plus the keyboard was a pain for me. Luckily the WAY COOL manager at the Sprint store let me exchange back to the Q9 and I am so glad I did. Once you get everything configured (as in email and setting up a secondary email for your contacts) the mms issue really isnt a big deal.

True. They still use a crippling amount of RAM and really slow processors. Maybe most smartphone users just make calls and store contacts so they can get away with it. Just don't try calling *2 from the Q9c. Can't believe that they missed that bug.

I don't mean to go off on a rant here...
I always thought the idea was to have a phone with the capabilities of keeping up with certain things while away from the office. A natural progression of combining your PDA and phone. While I too find it odd that it uses so much RAM, I understand that it is a phone and net speed will be slower because of that.
If you need to do that much while out and about, get a laptop. If you want to play that many games, get a PSP or something similar.
None of that excuses the bugs with the phone, I do agree with that.
Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I agree.they are what they are.I read about the shortcomings but when I use my q9c if it doesn't do whatever(play a certain video or get a unsupported file prompt) I don't get mad because it should do it but instead more on to what it will do;which is a lot and I love the convience of what it does.gps is enough to validate this phone.I will say this;is it me or when you show off a feature to your friends'does it get slower performing the feature than when the 100 times you did it by yourself.

Yeah, I just got a Q9c yesterday (dunked my Q in the sink and didn't want to wait for Asurion to ship a replacement). So I don't know if the fix is just on the Q9c or on the Q too.
Anyhoo, turned out it was cheaper to get a Q9c on a new line than buy one and replace my Q on the existing line, so now I have an extra line. Not sure if I'm going to keep the Q when it comes from Asurion or sell it.

Comparing the Q9c to the Centro is tough because the Centro can do so much more with the touchscreen. The Q9c is a great starter smartphone. I might replace a Touch on one of my lines with the Q9c just to use as a travel phone for watching movies. Not expecting much because of the slow CPU and low memory, but as long as it can play movies and it has that large battery, it should suffice.

You know i have two gripes about the phone so far... One is that when i first activated it would keep stalling when using any data. It showed i had service but no internet pages would load. The good thing is now on my third day its gotten alot better so hopefully it stays that way. Second is a problem I had with the first Q. The right soft key after 3 days feels sticky. It clicks every time i press it and all the other larger buttons feel nice with no noise. Maybe im just too picky. But I have to say other than that this phone rocks. I had the centro and well palm os is just too boring yah I used programs like fontsmoother and skinUI but it just felt so lacking. Plus I'm loving multitasking on my Q9c No longer do i have to reload a web page i was just viewing just because i wanted to see reply to a text. Not to mention I love that it shipped with the extended battery. With heavy use it will make it through 2 days. thats a first for me.

I just requested a return kit for the Q9.
I came from a Treo 700wx.
The Q9 wasn't bad it just wasn't.....
The Battery life was amazing.
The keyboard was great.
The GPS chip was cool, but without EVDO where I live I couldn't have very much fun with it.
The OS? well I just prefer a touch screen.
In the end it just came down to the fact that I couldn't justify the cost of a phone "upgrade" when I already had a WinMO 5 phone that worked just fine.
The Q9 would be a worthy upgrade from many devices but in my situation it had its nice points but just not enough.

To some touchscreen isnt a big deal i wouldnt really have much of a use for it or i would of gotten the Touch but the lack of picture mail, physical keyboard and lack of GPS was more then enough for me to not even give it a second look.... its touchflo technology might be cool but wont get you to where your going if your lost like the GPS and google maps on the q9c will:lol: ....And after actually picking up a Palm Centro and fiddling with it it just is too cheesy and the os looks ancient (i assume most Palms use it?) ... All this is my opinion and based on my needs on a phone either way though I dont think that the total line of phones sold by Palm or HTC sales are even close to Motorolas full line of overall sales so the better question would be when are they going to do things to make huge inroads into Motorolas territory?

Well the point of windows mobile 6 standard or smartphone addition is that its suppose to be less complicated and was designed to be navigated without a touchscreen. Some people like having the full ppc experience where there are others who find it to be too complicated so there fore thats why we have standard, for those who want a step lower in windows mobile. Now maybe it would be smarter if they maid a seperated device from the Q that does have Windows mobile Professional.

The point is that there is currently nothing like the Q that runs WM6 Pro. The only device that's close is the 700wx. The rumored 800w could/should be a world-beater with nothing else to compete with.

Different target audiences...
Also, keep in mind that dispite Q9c having no touchscreen and running WM6 Standard, Motorola bundled it with third-party document viewing *and* editing tools that replace the need for Office Mobile...

You didn't answer the question at all. Thanks anyway.
I wasnt trying to answer your question i was commenting on your post. Looks to me like your just a Treo fan boy trolling so you wont be happy with any answer anyways, even though a couple of other people have posted good answers you try to refute them but to the guy that says he agreed to your post you say nothing even though he didnt provide you with an answer how come you didnt respond in kind to him saying he didnt answer the question at all?

Yeah, MS did start including Office Mobile with WM6 but Motorola chose to get Documents to Go.

And I hope everyone noticed.. just like another poster that I didn't slam my Q9 on it's return.
But like hippity said:

Since I already had the 700wx I just couldn't justify the expense.
On another note:
The Palm OS is a very stable, functional, and speedy OS to use on a phone but I like WinMo for its application support.
I also believe we are trained by the devices we have had.
I.e. I have had a touch screen phone long enough that going to a non-touchscreen was very hard. I have an instinct that if I want something done on the screen I have to "poke" at it to do it.. not move the 4-way over and over till I get there.

That means a lot coming from a noob with an a900 and 8 posts. LOL
To those who actually own a Q9c (sorry brian999), how well does DTG work for editing? On a multi-page spreadsheet, can you move between the thousands of cells relatively quickly or is it suited for smaller documents?

You can actually move through them fairly quick (it even has a Page Scroll setting, where pressing down does..just what the name implies)... But, I'd hate to work on a relatively large document containing more than a few hundred rows.
You know what, I have one on my laptop right now... Let's see how this fairs and I'll get back to you.

I just loaded up a sheet with 5 columns filled with over 2200 rows of data... Not only did the document open instantly in DTG, but scrolling through the sheet was snappy as can be. Even in Line Scroll mode.
Also, you can see 4 full columns of about 6 to 7 characters each and 6 rows of data on screen at once (in the default zoom level, 100%)... 7 columns/11 rows in 50% mode, which is still quite readable... Not bad for a 320x240 space, and a lot of the screen utilized by the OS title/button bars, as well as the sheet's input field and column/row label fields... :headbang2

Thanks for checking that. My docs usually have a couple hundred rows with 5-10 columns. I've got a Touch on all three of my lines right now but am thinking about replacing one of them with the Q9c. If it took microSDHC, I could have tried my card in the phone at the store. Man I wish those things would finally just standardize.

Actually, to his defense, if I remember correctly the version of DTG that came with the original Q was a document viewer only... It did not allow you to edit. So that was a valid question.
Or perhaps it wasn't DTG...can't even remember. :)

Well according to their web site.... "Follow Links in Text" and "Better MMS Handling - Does not show but should skip and not block". Thats a new version as of 11/30/07. Maybe its been fixed in the new version?Well let me know if you can open picture mails in the program because I can't. I'm using the trial version 1.2 so not sure if that could be the reason. I haven't sent another email asking about it but never got a reply on the first email.

I couldnt get to pic mails with it either. I ended up uninstalling it because I didnt really like it. The treaded text is nice but seemed like a few bugs. Seemed to have problems with auto caps and would sometimes put the text input on alt randomly. Weird.....

I'm with you here. I have q9c, my first "upgrade" in over a year. I tried the BB8830 and the Pearl, but even though they were both great, I didn't feel like giving Sprint an extra 45 bucks for what I already had for free with Windows Mobile.
Now, I have a love/hate relationship with my Treo 700wx, but there is NO way that anyone who has used one can see the q9c as an upgrade over the Treo. I know, and I've been using both.
In most functions the Treo flat out smokes the q9c in terms of speed. Also, the Palm customizations make working with WM a lot easier than the standard OS. All this and I almost never use the touchscreen for anything.
Now, admittedly, the Treo 700wx has its share of nasty ass bugs, which should have been fixed by now, but even with the bugs, there are only three reasons why someone would choose a q9c over the Treo...
1) Larger Keyboard and Screen (and better screen at that)
2) Longer Battery Life ( I love that )
3) GPS - I do enjoy the GPS capabilities a lot.
In every other way, the Q9c gets owned.... You can talk Bluetooth and you may have a point, but when using a smartphone or pda, I'm looking for performance...
Things that I have noticed on my Q9c that have bothered me...
- screen flickering when I am typing emails
- static in phone calls
- slow rendering of webpages in PIE
- inability to reduce font size in email screen
- font rendering too small when viewing text in PIE (this might be customizable, but reading SU on a Q9c blows right now).
I am not here to bash, there is a lot to like about the phone, but it isn't a significant upgrade over what some of us had already. I'll probably just wait out the Treo 800w or whatever other Rev A device Sprint decides to launch at CES.

Hey I see you have the moto Q and the mogul. Just curious as to which one you like better? Looking to upgrade from my sanyo 8400.

Welcome back to the family! :tu:
I had some issues with my Q9c the other night, but nothing since.... I'm loving it still.
new to here, forgot to add quote to message. was just wondering which one is liked better in comparison, the mogul or the moto q9c better? looking at both to upgrade from my sanyo 8400. i had the original moto q for a while and was huge on sending pic mail which i was told it had and did not as well as support for my digital lounge. but now it's not such a big deal to me now. but IF there is a hack to unlock and get pic mail for either one that would be awesome. ANY THOUGHTS OR RECOMENDATIONS?
