I read somewhere recently, probably in a review, that the q9c has easy acces to AIM yahoo messenger, windows messenger etc. so hows is this working out for some people? especially the AIM, does it just run in the background or what? or does it just take you to a website version?

its an app that runs in the background i personally dont use it because i dont want people bugging me all day but its essentially the same app that came on the touch and that one worked just fine

How well does the AIM/Yahoo messenger work on the Q9C? Does it have a hard time keeping you online? I wonder if it keeps a constant EVDO connection so you end up missing calls.

I was under the impression that you could still receive calls while in a data session now? Am I wrong?

your right, DDTM is disabled by default calls will interrupt evdo
Doesnt' always work great, sometimes it can take 30 seconds for somebody to get your message or them to get yours.

Yea, the lag time for sending and receiving messages is considerable, but you do get the 3 IM programs in one. Be warned that your battery life WILL suffer considerably if you choose to run with it all day. I can make it a full day of texting and have 2-3 bars at the end of the day, but if I use the IM program instead of texting I will either have 1 bar, or the phone will die around 8PM ish...
So, if your worried about battery life, I would stay away from the IM program for sure.

Does anyone know if this is an application loaded on the phone or when you click on IM does it just direct you to a website? I looked at an unactivated one and when i clicked on IM it looked like it was trying to connect to the web.

it directs you to a site to download it

i wonder how long it will keep you logged on? usually if you lose your evdo signal for a little while the other IM programs would kick you off

I wonder if the lag is from the EVDO network or the application itself? You can use a SIDO wifi card so you might be able to chat more like real time with no lag. But nobody on sprint users has actually used one. I'd love a review of how well wifi works on the Q9C
a Wifi card won't change anything.
the Q9c's OZ messaging app runs off of text messaging.

no it doesnt, it uses data it even prompts you as such, plus i ran a packet sniffer while i had it plugged into my pc, trust me its using data
otherwise it wouldnt work over usb while my phone is in airplane mode, same with over bluetooth PAN while my phones internal antenna is off i get bored and try random experiments on my devices connectivity

when i first installed the messenger a prompt came up stating a need for unlimlited data and a text messenging plan.since i pay a la cart for messeges i was wary of using the app.end result using plenty of data and not counting against my messenging.

I have unlimited texting on my plan, and Power vision access...
Would I have to pay extra to use the AIM the Q9C comes with or no?

Same question as Alex. Does it cost extra if you have powervision and unlimited texting?

I dont think it does cost anything extra if you have the unlimited data plan. I also have the unlimited texting plan, but I havent had any extra charges for using the chat program. So I think your good to go :)
Most modern IM clients use your Data connection, though some olders ones are just a UI wrapper using TXT. If you have Power Vision and unlimited TXT you're ok.
