Specifically: "Unable to place Call' or laggy texting or battery life issues?

I get a little slight interference on longer calls. Some other owners reported the same, some kind of hardware issue most likely. More info here (http://www.everythingq.com/forum/moto-q-9c/slight-interference-12-minutes-into-any-call-15152.html#post111207).
dead earpeice only after 3 days, Sprint service center has news ones on hand, so they just swapped it out.

So no1 has experience the dreaded 'Unable to Place Call' on gen 2 Q huh?
That is my biggest headache with the gen1.

Did you get all the way to the MOL 3 update on the old Q? That seemed to take care of just about all the problems. My Q works pretty flawlessly now.

No I didn't have a solution to backup my contacts (no MSOffics '03+ ; just '02 which didn't allow proper sync with Q) so I stayed away from it.
So now with the opportunity to get a Q9C, in which the contacts can most likely be copied over by the sprint store or BT, I am wondering if the issues are still there.

I haven't had that issue in my short time with it. It did tell me it couldn't complete the call while in a voice session. Thing was, I wasn't in a voice session. But it wasn't a prolonged problem.
Also, if you have your contacts on your computer, you can sync them in that way too.

zero issues here and with heavy usage that extended battery sure holds up well

I had two Q9cs. Exchange the first on due to bluetooth issues and calls breaking up in good signal areas. Waiting on a return kit for the second for the same issues.

The "calls breaking up" problem seems to be a bubbling problem (?). I have read this a few times - folks say the old Q had better reception than the new one.

Yeah this is my issue. All my contacts are on the Q. & Outlook '02 is the only version of Office I have. But it doesn't recognize the Q.
So I am hoping that the Q9C can solve a bunch of my issues.

After reading some issues with bluetooth and dust under the screen I'm glad I decided not to get the q9c. Also a friend of mine said he had some reception issues. It took the original Q a few updates to get stuff right and seems like Motorola didn't learn anything from that.

Long-term original Q user here... Also, heavy usage (corporate e-mail, mostly...but also lots of Google Maps and Internet browsing).
Just picked up my Q9c tonight, and so far all I can say is...wow...this thing is what the original Q should've been.
So far calls have been flawless, reception is identical (not sure what people are smoking saying reception's better on the old one)...
I've carried both together (got Q9c through new line) and everywhere their reception is identical.
The Q9c is much more responsive, specially during network access. My corporate email (Exchange server) comes through much faster, and Internet connectivity seems much speedier (even side by side comparo).
Google Maps now rocks with GPS functionality... :headbang2
Lag is almost non-existant, but there's still a bit of wait time opening certain apps (although not as much).
To the best of my knowledge, they both use the exact same processor, so I guess software optimizations are to thank for the speed improvements.
I know some don't care for this, but having SprintTV is a very nice bonus....!
Oh, and WM6 looks so purdy... Storm is my favorite theme.
Oh yea, extended battery right in the package... Nice!
Within an hour of usage, I had already many complaints when I got my original Q. Having used the Q9c all day, and heavily (smooth transition from my old Q), and so far loving it has a lot to say about its overall quality. I truly think Motorola and Sprint finally got their act together with this one.
And keep in mind, no software updates are yet available... If there are indeed some issues (which I've yet to find), I'm sure they will be resolved in due time.

Same here...have had it almost a week with no reception issues or phone call issues. Screen is so nice. Keypad is so nice. Not much to say bad about the phone so far. I swapped in the Mogul for this since i was within my 30 days and dont regret it at all.

I'm planning on possibly doing the exact same thing, exchanging my mogul for this little beauty. Since you already have done so, how is it going from the mogul to the new q? is there an improvement in the lag? thats one of my problems, the mogul has SO MUCH lag no matter what you are doing. I'm glad you enjoy it and like the keyboard, thats one thing I'm really looking forward to is trying out the keyboard.

Did you download a taskmanager for your Mogul? If not thats probably where all your lag is sitting. When you close apps in the Mogul it just minimizes them and doesnt actually close them. I have little to no lag on the Q. I know the screens are pretty much the same but the Q seems a bit more colorful. Call quality on the Q is a lot better. Unlocked GPS is a winner also...and of course Sprint TV. Yeah so cant come up with a reason not to switch...oh and it doesnt hurt that its half the price of the Mogul. :hee:

Task manager has nothing to do with lag on the Mogul, it's just a poorly developed piece of hardware. It would certainly help if you weren't using one (I would think it intolerable without one). I had HTC X Button (task manager) and always used it. Lag was still horrible and, to me, seemed to be worse with this latest 2.17 ROM, especially when powering the screen back on after it being off for at least a few minutes, flipping the screen orientation or sliding out the keyboard especially. Not to mention that my Mogul had developed a bright point about an inch from the bottom of the screen right in the center without and excessive pushing on it or anything. Camera button also stopped functioning at all, leaving the camera completely useles since only one button takes pictures.
So I ditched the Mogul and got my Q9c Friday.
This phone is great so far. Things I miss vs. the Mogul? **Disclaimer** PLEASE correct me/point me in the right directions if these things I'm missing are possible on WM6 on the Q9c.
* I miss popup text notifications and previews...when you get a text on the Mogul it pops up on the screen saying so and shows you the first couple lines of it along with who it's from, etc. On the Q9c all I can get it to do is make a noise and/or vibrate when a text is received. Nothing pops up on screen other than the "Text messages (0)" changes to "Text messages (1)"
* Related to that... I want my Text messaging status to be right under the clock. With it stuck under the appointments (which I rarely use) it doesn't stay on the home screen and you have to scroll to see it. I want to be able to choose what goes on the Home screen or not and where it shows up on there.
* Related still... Visual messaging indicators? Why aren't there any? I liked how my Mogul flashed a yellow light when I had a missed call, voicemail or especially a text. When I didn't have any it would flash a green light indicating I had service. The blue light for when bluetooth was active was also nice. So now if I'm away from my desk for 10 minutes and get a text I can't just come back and glance at my phone without bothering it to see if I have a message or missed call. I have to push a button to turn the screen on and scroll down.
* Task manager? Is there a task manager of some sort for WM6 without a touch screen? I'm talking something like the X Button for HTC phones that will close each program rather than just shoving it to the background to take up more of the precious and very miniscule 64MB of RAM. I know there's the built in task manager, but that's a pain to do every 20 minutes when you're using it.
* Big icons... Is there a way to pick which icons are at the top of my screen when using the WM6 'themes' instad of having the last X amount of programs used show up there? I'd just like to have messaging, IE, settings, Sprint TV (When EVDO actually works in my area, SPRINT ARE YOU LISTENING?) and maybe one or two others rather than the last so many I've used.
* Keyboard arrangement takes some getting used to for Mogul users. Things like the exclamation are in different places and for whatever reason you don't have to use the Fn key to get a question mark anymore (but still do for exclamation...I don't get it). I appreciate the tactile feedback of the keys more than the Mogul, though. Reviewers at Cnet said they'd like more tactile feedback, but I guess they've never used the Mogul...
* Only an issue for former Mogul-ers... Your memory card won't work in this. It uses MiniSD instead of MicroSD. You can get adapters to make a Micro work in a Mini, but they typically only come with new cards. I got a 2GB MicroSD with adapters for MiniSD and standard SD at Radio Shack on sale yesterday for 30 bucks.
* Alerts? Where do I need to put my own audio files to get them to work as Alerts? If I put them where they can be used as ringers (in My Documents/My Ringtones) they don't show up as choices in the Alerts but do for Ringers. I put a few random MP3's on my storage card (in the root directory) and they somehow show up as available Alert tones now. So can I just put them there?
Good stuff...better than the Mogul
* Volume...volume of ANYTHING on this phone at the loudest setting is almost painful if you're coming from the Mogul. You will not have any trouble in that area with this phone.
* Clarity... Speakerphone and music are probably 3 times better on this than the Mogul's crappy speaker.
* Battery... With the extended battery, users accustomed to the Mogul's lack of battery life will wonder if the thing is solar powered or something. My battery hasn't moved a bar since I've had it, but I do charge it every night. The Mogul is half dead after maybe 4 hours unplugged.
* Lack of lag... Compared to the Mogul, lag is practicaly non-existent. It is still there when opening programs/functions for the first time since a restart or after you've killed them with the task manager, but nothing near what the Mogul brought you.

Regarding showing texts on front page and size of icons and which ones you want and how they are arranged on the front got to start>personalize my Q. There is a lot of 3rd party apps out there that can set up display items for missed calls and such. I feel your pain with the miserable 64mb though...is 128 to much to ask?

Façade is a nice app. it is also popular with homescreen designers who build it in to their designs. I have it can't complain.
the issue I have noticed lately is random changes in settings and appt times. things like ringer have beenchange from what I set it at. I also noted a couple of time changes in my calendar. anyone else run into this type of thing.

Yeah, not sure it's app related and if it is, I was adding them so quick, I couldn't tell you which one it would have been. I'm keeping an eye on it to see if it becomes more frequent. Minor issue, for now.

I don't think Sprint's testing has anything to do with it really - I think it is MSFT finally making improvements to the OS for the mobile platform. They HAVE to get better or RIM and Apple will continue to erode their market share.

I really don't want to take this thread off track, but I find your comment about eroding market share interesting. What makes you think that WM is loosing market share? Everything I have read shows that WM is taking market share from RIM and the majority of iPhone cutomers switched from either PalmOS or the Sidekick in addition to introducing the idea of a converged device to an entire segment of the public.
I would love to see what data you have that shows that WM is actually loosing market share to RIM and Apple.

Maybe I should have said "could erode" WM's market share! Apple got 27% of the "smartphone" market share in Q3. That put them in second place behind RIM. Windows was in third for Q3. Apple "eroded" WM's market share at least for that quarter, IMHO. Did all of those Apple customers bypass a Windows device for an iPhone? As you stated, probably not, but the iPhone certainly didn't help WM sales and RIM, well they are still out in front.

ahh makes sense. Also these nubers are for just for 1 quarter and in the US only. We really need to look Worlwide Smartphone sales since WM,RIMM and now Apple aree all selling their devices WW.
Also, I actually think the iPhone probably helped WM sales more then it hurted. There was an article not log ago that said the majority of the iPhone purchasers that switch came from Palm OS and the Sidekick. Now how many more people wanted to get iPhone functinality but were not able to leave their carriers, or didn't want to go to ATT etc... I think that since the iPhone introduced the converged device to an entire new market and not all of those chose to switch to ATT, not everyone could afford $599 etc.. WM probably saw a good % of the "spill over".
I wonder how many people that purchased the Touch were somewhat "inspired" by the iPhone? Just my .02 but a great discussion :)

Mashie - I agree that the iPhone introduced "smartphone" functionality to the masses and will actually help the market overall in the long run b/c the bar has been raised. It will also be interesting to see the trends over the next few quarters as the iPhone penetrates Europe and other global markets.

yep I fully agree, I also agree that manufacturers that are producing WM devices need to continue to produce more solid roms and a better overall "experiance". MS also has to come out with some updated user interfaces and again overall better user experiance if they want to continue to grow.

Oookay... Hate to burst people's bubbles (trust me, this ached me too), but... I just had to do my first pull-battery-out...perform-master-reset last night.
I was on my way home from work, and as I'm trying to dial my wife's number (chosen from the call history), the phone locked up at "Dialing..." Nothing would work (cancel, home, or any key)... I even waited about 2 or 3 minutes, and nothing...
Tried to power it down, nothing...
Finally ended up pulling the battery.
After I got home, I decided to watch some CNN mobile and there was no sound. I checked every single audio setting, volume, etc... Nothing... If I called the phone, it would ring normally, but system and media sounds were gone (this used to happen to my old Q from time to time). Turning off and back on did nothing to restore sound (also, the intro animation on power on that says something about Sprint Speed had no audio either).
I had to perform a master reset.
The only third party apps I had installed since I got my phone this weekend were Google Maps (which I wasn't even using at the moment), and the app Sprint now links you to for IM... Also not in use at the time.
Aside from that, I haven't had any other issues, but so far it appears the device itself has carried over some hardware/driver-specific issues from its original conception.
I'm a bit disappointed as I've only had it for 4 days and already had one of the major issues I had with my original Q (in fact, the problem got worse over time in my original Q).
I'm willing to give this thing a chance, but I'm not going to risk going over the exchange period... If things worsen I may have to go with the Touch. :(

Just joking - none of'em are perfect. I still have the old one and after MOL 3 it has been pretty stable - but today I had to yank the battery out too. First time in probably 1.5-2 months (wow, is that a record??). I am not getting anything until next month, so I have time to continue to evaluate through you guys. Keep us posted.

Well, gee thanks Eddie! Just HAAAD to come in here and ruin it, didn't you?!? Blackberry, heeeeere I come!
Quite frankly, I owe this thing a chance... It impressed me from the start, and although I already had a few issues with it, if you look at the percentage of time it performed well vs the issues, we're talking about less than 1%. :)
We'll see... Battery life alone is a HUGE selling point on this thing, it's amazing.
Having an application-accesible GPS is also a good incentive. :D

I exchange my Q9 for another one and now I am going to send this one back. I had similar problems with the sound on Telenav not coming through. I am returning mine because of other issues though.

I hope we don't start seeing this as a widespread issue...
Could you explain the other issues you were/are having, in case anyone else is as well...?

I have had the Seidio 2100 battery on mine since May. Made the phone "usable" for an entire day! And I still use my slim battery for the weekends! :D

I'm starting to see an issue with my Q9c. I'd like to think it's got something to do with some fubar'd setting on the network side of the Sprint system. Anyway, the issue I'm experiencing is when calling the *2 Customer Service number AND being jacked into external power AND the battery is charging.
What happens is after I smack *2, it connects like normal and then after a few seconds (like during the "please wait while we access your account"), the screen indicates that it has been disconnected from the call, the little network/antenna icon in the top-right only shows cellular signal (not the two arrows showing data access with signal strength) AND the call is still going on in the earpiece. To regain access to the active phonecall, I just go through the motion of making an actual phonecall. The display will indicate a certain phone number is connected (normally not the actual call) and then I just hit the hangup key.
After a couple of minutes, the data connection is re-established and I'm back in business. So far this morning, this is continuously repeatable.....regardless of how many times I power cycle the device.
Funky! :Popcorn2:

You planned that whole thing, didn't you? :D
Now that's what I call a test case... I'll have to try it later on when I'm home and see if I can reproduce it. :fingers:

well i dont get disconnected or anything, but it is kinda trippy it will display my last call, then some random number and the dialer app does randomly disappear and come back, but the entire time to call stays active
if you exit the dialer app while on a call it wont show the phone icon or the data icon but your still connected
it did indicated another number (the 1st in my phonebook) was connected, a number ive never dialed before on this device, its all a bit strange, but my call to *2 otherwise went off without a hitch

I had this happen to me as well. I think you are right that it is something on the Sprint side of things because it dont happen on other calls. I know sometimes listening to "Clair" makes me want to malfunction too. :eyebrow:

Well......I have a followup to all of this. It appears I was being too specific in my "requirements" to make this happen. Basically, all it takes is to make the *2 call, speakerphone or not, let the system find your account, and then hangup. More often than not, it totally craps out the caller app, loses the data connection (meaning if I try to use PIE for example, the phone barks at me saying it can't use the data service while a call is in progress...even though I supposedly already hungup), and leaves me stranded with a call that won't hangup. The only true way to "fix" it is to power cycle the device.
I spent ALL day yesterday continuously master resetting my device trying different things and it was reproducible no matter what I was doing.
I'm going a long-distance trip soon, so I'm gonna play around with this outside of my "home region" -- maybe it's just in my area for the most part.
BTW -- The *4 number works just fine.

Would it possibly have anything to do with the "Allow wireless connection on device while connected to the desktop" setting in the Connection Settings of ActiveSync? That box is checked on mine and I haven't had any problems making calls while connected to a charger or while ActiveSync is connected. Just another thought.

I spoke with Customer Service to add TEP and asked about TV Guide fees....he told me that it was included in the Ultimate Plan....???? Anyone else out there have any input? I really don't want to pay extra for this service.

this is all good to hear, I returned my Rumor within 23 days of having it because of all the problems it was having and opted for the Q 9c. I'll give an update after I use it for a couple days.

.... the phone locked up at "Dialing..." Nothing would work (cancel, home, or any key)... I even waited about 2 or 3 minutes, and nothing...
.... no sound.
The same problems here,the only program I installed was Google maps;
I can't "play" the ring or anything else from the menu, though it does ring when someone is calling;
it is not a big deal I guess but kind of annoying;I love this phone and don't want to exchange...
