SBSH Facade (not free but very cheap) is really popular with Q users now. Also PhoneAlarm, which I don't have, but apparently power-corporate-types like it.
Facade lets you customize the heck out of your home screen (using xml). Go to the Facade pages of the SBSH Forum, you can see what other people have done. Some of them are RIDICULOUS. They usually all give away their home screens for free, so you don't need to be a programmer yourself.
Right now I've got that, Windows Live Search, and Yahoo Go (just got the Q9c, still working on getting it up to speed...). Curious to see what other good ones people know of...

thanks for the reply, just in the last few minutes I figured out how to do it on my mogul with the .cab file. So if and when I get the q9c I hope I will be able to figure out how to do it on there.

I'm trying to get opera installed. I know that you need jbed. I THINK it's installed (but not sure). Can someone explain it in the "Smartphones for Dummies" terminology?

i got my jbed file from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1483665&postcount=24 (the zipped download needs to be extracted one time to make the cab file for phone).the site requires registration but it is as simple as give a email and they send the activation link(very painless)
install this file and opera mini will install.after that to access opera mini, just go to the jbed icon and it will be in the list of installed java apps.

mini is java app that takes very little resources to run.mobile is bloated in size and is installed in the same manner as internet explorer and cost money.

Google Maps, Yahoo! Go 2.0, and zaTelnet Professional (I've got to have SSH) for now . . . I'll probably add a NES emulator at some point.
Also, if anyone has figured out how to setup Outlook E-mail so that you can send mail via a port other than 25, that knowledge would come in handy. :-)

I don't mean the cost of the program. I mean will Sprint charge you to tether if you don't have a PAM plan.

If you mean pocket outlook (the mail client on the Q), rather than Exchange, just specify the port with your outbound server. Such as, smtp.domain.com: port (no space between the colon and the port number)
So, if one was using Gmail with port 465, it would be smtp.gmail.com:465

I just got my Q9c yesterday, so I haven't really done a whole lot with it. Mostly I reinstalled my favorite apps from my Q:
Extreme Text - threaded SMS, like it much more than the app that comes with the Q9
Gentimer - a good, cheap alarm/timer program
Google Maps
Live Search
Mundu IM
Orneta Notepad Mobile - allows Outlook notes to sync along with contacts, calendar, etc.
Oxios CloseApps and Hibernate - memory managers
Palringo - another free IM app
QoolApps QTask
QoolApps QCaps
Sprite Backup
TCPMP
Total Commander
Yahoo! Go 2.0
Kevtris (free tetris app)
I don't think I'll be adding too many more apps really; the phone does just about everything I need at this point.

Heh, after years of having to deal with Microsoft programs that couldn't handle entering a hostname and port number in such a fashion, I just readily assumed that I wouldn't be able to do things that way in Pocket Outlook. And even if I couldn't do that, there was/is always SSH'ing in and using a good, old fashioned UNIX mail client. :-)
Thanks for the reply

Hey everyone. I am new to this Moto Q9c stuff but I'm a veteran of the PPC/Treo/8525 crowd. I saw a post earlier in here about putting cab files on the Q9c, but I was wondering if, although there's no touch screen (which I don't care, doesn't bother me), if I can sync cab files to this device like some of my old medical programs which are cab files. They normally had synced thru activesync but I think smartphones like this and PPC WM6 is different, correct? It wouldn't bum me out completely, given that I love this phone before it's even in my hands, but it'd be sweet if I could get some medical programs on it somehow.
Thanks for any responses/tips.

Yup, I'm a newbie at this whole smartphone thing....and looking for some help. I want to use Windows Media Player for music, but cannot figure out how to transfer, or copy, my music library from the i-tunes library to WMP. OR, how can I set-up my current i-tunes music library to work on the q 9c?
Thanks in advance....

If the programs were made for PPC's, chances are some of the screens/menus rely on the touchscreen to make selections. These types of programs don't work well in a Smartphone, as they often don't allow the use of the D-Pad (cursor keys) to select items. I'd be more concerned with that, than with synchronization issues (Smartphones do use ActiveSync as well...the use of CAB files simply allows you to copy the CAB into your device (PPC or Smartphone) and run the installer internally, without the need to do it from your PC/ActiveSync).

Hey all,
I have about 20 apps installed on my Q9c... Only 12 of them will show up on my add/remove programs list on the Q... They all show up under add/remove in active-sync, however... I have a mix of apps on the SD card and the Internal Memory -- there's now rhyme or reason to it.....
Anyone here have similar problems?
Annoyed,
Matt!
