I am a total noob when it comes to cell phones, and my Moto Q 9c is my first ever. I was under the impression that I could just go into IE and immediately start browsing the internet...However, I've fiddled with the settings for a few days and I still receive an error message: "Cannot connect. Please ensure you have service and try again." My plan has unlimited web and data access, so I guess it's something I am doing wrong...Do I have to set up a connections manually?
Thanks in advance.

go to settings->(G)more->(G)more->(F)pcs vision->(C)update data service profile. I had that problem earlier when I swapped Q's. You may to reboot your phone if it that doesnt work right away.

ya your phone must not be provisioned so that may force it to do so

You can always visit a Sprint store, they will be happy to help you get your phone set up properly. Congrats on starting out with a VERY good cell phone too. The Q9c is sweet and will bring you many months of enjoyment I'm sure!

I had this exact same problem last night and this morning...however, I was also messing w/some of the programs in the /Windows dir to see what they would do. Turns out that ModemBridge.exe will disable the internal modem and switch to external modem (??? - I was trying to get my damn phone to work as a modem for my computer to use...w/out PDANet or PAM plan). The program works like a toggle switch; once to disable/enable, again to reverse whatever the hell it did, because when the internal modem was disabled, I couldn't get on the internet at all and provisioning the vision wouldn't work either (I dunno if I could get calls or not, I didn't try to call out either).
Just an FYI.

Error Code 1012
Could not prepare PCS Vision services. Please try again later. If the problem persists, you may need to contact Sprint.
Any ideas?
I have the SERO 500 with unlimited web access, so it's not like it's my plan, right?

Time to call tech support

EVERY SINGLE TIME I have received that 1012 error my phone eventually had to be exchanged/replaced. I kid you not. I don't care what tech support tells you, if you are within your 30 days - exchange it! (Others may have had different expiriences with this error and their phones have been fine)

1012 is just a basic "We don't know what really went wrong" error message. It's nothing to be alarmed about; it generally is just a temporary problem.

I got the same thing today as well, I had my q9c for the last 3 days or so. Today I finally called tech support about the internet not working and they did something on their end to provision the data and then had me redo the vision profile which I did. It still didnt work after that and it seemed like IE was just crashing out. Then, they had me do a master reset and then redo the vision profile again and that got it working.

Hello I have the same phone (moto q9c) same plan (sero 500) and same problem (cannot connect to internet). I have had no luck trying to fix it doing anything mentioned above. I've rebooted my phone, messed with the settings, and tried to update the data profile... all to no avail. I'm not sure what else to do.

I had the same problem. I had to do a hard reset and then re-update the profile to get it working. I did it by holding the center select button down and hitting the power button when I went to turn it on. It will then ask if you want to do a master reset on the phone. Select yes and everything will be erased on the phone and it will be restored like when you first got it. After, update your vision profile again and see if it works then. This fixed it for me. I did this after verifying that everything was indeed setup correctly on Sprint's side. Its been working since.

what is the "SERO 500" plan? I know nothing about it. This is my first data phone. The only data plan that I have is the cheapest 1, the $25 a month data plan. Am I missing out on something?
Also, my little data transfer icon pops up every once in a while for like 2 or 3 seconds and disappears. Am I being charged for something when it does that? I'm not on the internet or anything when it does it. I'm concerned that I am going to rack up a bunch of .3 cents per minute **** because I don't know what I am doing. Can anyone run down what I will actually get "charged" for??
Also, in my problem getting on the internet, Tech support suggested that I clear my internet history (temp files, etc.) and then do a "soft reset" (turning the device off, and power it back up). They said that should clear up the problem with getting online.

My Friend just got this phone(Switched from Cingular) and Sprint took 5 days to port over his number.
Anyways, after he got his phone activated (Sero 500 plan), he can't get internet to work. Sprint is telling him that due to the billing system changes they are going through, there are some problems with internet on these phones.
Is that just a bunch of baloney??? I will ask him to do what is mentioned here in the thread, but is there something else that needs to be setup properly?

The SERO plan through Sprint is Sprints friends and family plan. Look around these boards regarding it...if your paying normal retail its definately something to look into. I just got on it for 500 minutes, n/w @7, unlimited data and unlimited text messaging for $30. I need to start emailing ecare to get some freebies though.

Just got my Moto. I had same problem: "error cannot connect. Please ensure you have service and try again"
Once again this board has been WAY more helpful than sprint. 4 calls to sprint, they had no clue.
This board suggested:
Start>settings>more>more>PCS Vision>update data service profile
Worked like a charm!!! Why conuldn't the sprint techs do that???
BTW. this is my first post:)

I just did the same thing, got mine working. First attempt at updating gave me the 1012 error, 2nd attempt worked fine. Internet now works!
