at&t and TMo do it now too. It's a BS charge, but it is what it is.

At least with TMO and ATT you can swap out the sim cards!

Of course, but if you go into a T-Mobile store and buy a new phone (with upgrade pricing), they charge you that 18 dollars for putting your SIM into the new phone. Total BS. Same if you upgrade online or via telesales.

The upgrade fee should have been explained to you when you purchased the phone. If you bought it in a store or over the phone, then the employee didn't do their job by not explaining that to you. If you bought it online, the site shows that you will be charged an $18 upgrade fee right on the page when you order it. If your problem is the store or phone order, call care and explain how unhappy you are that you were not informed of this charge. They may be able to either A. Credit the $18 back to you, or B. Give you something else to make up for it. Doesn't always work, but it's worth a shot.

I've had friends get the credit when they called and asked what it was all about.

After the rep explained what it was for, they said they were going to return the phone because they felt it was an unfair charge.

Last week when i activated a phone i was told

"There will be an $18 fee, but I will just go ahead and give you an $18 credit"

real cool rep though, when i told him it was a mogul he said "sweet dude, that is the phone i want"

without me even asking...seems like something the reps have quite a bit of lee-way when it comes to charging you. just dont be a jerk, and i am sure they can take care of it for you.

I thought when ordering online you didn't have to pay that fee.

Is this an additional charge then the activation fee of $18?

I work for sprint customer care, and i do receive a lot of complaints in regards to this $18 upgrade fee.. now usually what we do if you can give us a call just tell the rep that you are not informed about this ... and just those words would be enough for most of the sprint care reps to have it credited back to you

Call back, ususally if you pay your bill on time and are a higly rated customer you can usually get the charge reversed.
