I've used the method posted here to create your own ringtones and text message yourself to access them. I'm wondering though, when I click on this message and hit "Go" and it downloads the file... what charges are associated with this?

If you don't have a date plan, then data charges are associated with that, and text messaging charges if you don't have texting in your plan. If you don't have a data package then you might want to take it easy on the ringtone uploads because at $.03 a KB it can get pretty expensive.
