I have SERO. My 22 mos are up in a few days and I'd like to get a new phone (HTC Touch) at a good price. People report getting good deals through retentions. My concern is that I have SERO with discounts and NVP and I want to avoid getting flagged. Does retention flag these things?? I don't want to come out worse than going in. I could go to Best Buy and pay a little more to skip the risk. (not Ensembled yet, I'm guessing late 2008 for me.)

I don't know if they flag accounts, but they do leave notes that other reps can access. That's a bad thing if you called in acting like an a**. But if you're friendly, courteous, kind, (and rest of the boyscout motto :lmao:), there's no reason for the rep to write anything bad. A couple of things though:
Don't threaten to move to another carrier. They know you're not calling in to cancel (If you were really switching, you would go to the other carrier first to port your old numbers and your Sprint account will get canceled automatically). And since the agent you're talking to knows that it's not him that has to cancel your account if it comes to that (which would make him look bad), he doesn't give a damn if you really switch later or not. Why make him hate you for no reason?
An ideal thing to say would be something like:
"Hey, I'm calling in because I heard from a friend that he got a really good deal through this number... blah blah blah... and I've been a good customer for 22months... blah blah blah... I love you guys and had no major problems... blah blah blah... I WANT to extend my contract but I was hoping to get the kind of deal that my friend got... blah blah blah... blah blah blah...
That's just an example so don't just read off of it (especially the blah blah part ). We all have different social styles, so just talk like you talk to one of your friends. If you're nice, they'll feel guilty if they say "no" to you; if you're an ass, they'll WANT to say "no" to you. They're <gasp> human too!
On the final note, most of the agents are nice if you act nice. But some are just plain evil--a trait undoubtedly obtained from working at the most painful level of customer support. Most agents will listen to your story and talk a little bit before they ask for your number to look up your account: If the agent seems like an a**, just hang up before giving them your number and try again. If you get a nice agent, they'll either set you up with what you want, or at least throw a bone in your way. Anyway, if you act decent, there's nothing to lose so call in by all means.
