yeh i jsut picked one up to try cuz i hate typing on the tuoch despite LOVING the phone itself. but if i cant do email n text comfortably then theres no point if it does stuff "pretty"

i think im gonna love the gps though too and the phone is very well built and has a good feel, just feels bigger since im used to the small touch

call me ignorant, but this is all via power vision correct?
the account i share noone has or needs PV, but i want this phone, curious to see if the features are pointless without PV enabled?

also, there's no extra charges for GPS function right? Somebody posted some disclaimer sayign so, but i'm assuming the charges are just internet usage (e.g: if u have unliimited vision, then ur good)

well i decided already its going back. its a great lil phone but ive been spolied by huge touch screens and wm6 pro. the standard just seems so toy-ish and you cant do anything with it really and its very hard to navigate anything. it only took a few hours to realize that it wasnt gonna cut it in the non touch screen OS department its jsut so much harder to use

but least we know now the gps wont be locked solely to sprint navigation, google and live search worked perfect with gps built in like the touch n mogul will have soon (prays)

I think someone (I might) should do a nice review of the Q9C. It definitely has its good points and bad ones.....but every phone as them!

I just thought I would let folks know that I went to the Sprint Store today and tried to use the GPS functions on the phone, particularly with Google Maps, and it did not work. :( Has anyone else confirmed that this works?

klmsu19

it does work i have the phone next to me. it doesnt work well indoors though, its not meant to anyways, especially the sprint store with all those signals in and out

It works with downloaded google maps.....I would be surprised if it didn't work with other mapping software....but I guess you never know.

First time using a GPS enable phone with Google maps so pardon my ignorance.

How do you make it so that the application will change to the next step on the driving directions automatically. I remember seeing this in my friend's BB. On my Q9c, I have to press # 3 to see the next set of instructions.

Thanks,

Victor

Nevermind, I just found out google maps doesn't provide automatic turn by turn driving directions. My friend was actually using Live Search.

Question, what com port is GPS using on the Q9c?

Well I switched over to my Q9c from my Touch for a little bit and I have to say that the integrated GPS is very nice and works really well. I used it with Windows Live Search (Comm port set to Intermediate GPS Driver) and it was spot on.

I used the "Center on GPS" option in Live search to set my home and watch as it followed me to my house. Integrated GPS is the way to go, now if the Q was the size of the Touch, I might actually use it full time lol.

Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try on my way back home this afternoon.

yeah, it works awesome with Windows Live Search, but you can't talk (with bt headset) simultaneously - the gps quits. love the q9c, but the gps is useless to me if I can't talk and navigate at the same time.

Hi. I have an HTC Touch. I bought a GPS receiver and it works great with Google maps and Live Search. Both with moving maps. Of course they work outside.

why would you want a smartphone then if there is no internet on it?

My Q9c works fine with Google Maps indoors, although I'm not sure why I'd need to do that.

Also works with driving directions from Telenav.

If you goto Settings/more/more/Phone Settings/more/GPS Settings, there are a few options:
Number of fixes
Time between fixes (seconds)
Performance (seconds)
Accuracy (meter)

How are they used, ie, what is the best setting to use? I'd like to get the fastest signal, and have the best accuracy, but I don't know if higher numbers are better or viceversa.

If google maps are not working, while in the program click the right side menu key and click gps- it is not by default selected. And just for kicks, try windows live and voice recognition- you gotta love saying 'coffee' and having it find the nearest Starbucks' or Peets coffee of you!

I don't know why GPS would be incompatible with bluetooth, but I suspect a bigger problem is that Live Search needs an active EVDO connection to continuously download map data, which would be interrupted during voice calls anyway.

...:rolleyes:c'mon now...never said i want no internet. Why would i be here?? ha

I was asking if ur forced into power vision, because i dont have power vision enabled account. I kno with a SERO plan it wouldnt make a diff since price stays the same. but i dunno about regular Vison plans. (i got the original premium Vision plan with unlimited texts ($10)). So thats why I asked about PowerVision being a requirement. (and nobody answered...still...inlcuding you:p)

dig?

iGuidance says that it is NOT compatible with non-touch screen phones...so that counts out our new Q9c...

I'll have to look into TomTom.

I can pair my Touch to my Tomtom Go 910 for hands free, but no data connection which sucks, becuase I want traffic updates. I tired calling Sprint, got nowhere and called tomtom and was told the data connectivity is only available with at&t and t-mobile. I hope there is a way to tether them together!

Will Telenav work on the Q9c without an external GPS unit. My feeling is that IT SHOULD, but I don't know that IT WILL.

Thanks!!!

Your options for active guidance GPS programs on the Smartphone which store maps locally are really limited to 3 programs; Route 66, Mapopolis (which is discontinued), and CoPilot. Of these I prefer Route 66. I'd be very interested if any of them work on the Q9c without a bt GPS.

Explain about Telenav? What version? Do you need a GPS receiver via BT?

Thanks!!!!

pretty much all the $20 powervision plans include sprint navigation, unlimited text, unlimited internet. just download sprint navigation...which will download telenav and there you go.... your getting turn by turn navigation. i'm not sure what version it is though.

q9c has built IN GPS which means you do NOT need any bluetooth GPS recievers or any other extra gps hardware.

i have not downloaded and tried route66. if you know anything about bit torrent, theres free versions to be downloaded. i suggest learning how to use bittorrent.

I just tried to use Sprint Navigation, but the program doesn't even have an option for GPS (built-in or external)....??? what gives? It's version 1.0.13

EDIT: oops, sorry, apparently it "just works", w/no settings needed...

Do you know what (if any) differences) there are between SprintNAV and TeleNav?

Thanks!

Hi. just a quick comment on Sprint Navigations and Telenav. Both use the telenav patform. The difference, with telenav there is a $9.95 per month charge. If you have a gps phone like the HTC TOUCh with wm6.1 and have the simply everthing plan, then sprint navigation is included. Mine works well except the volume is not very high. I received a car mount speaker and charger from ebay for $19.95. This unit is very loud. Hope this helps.:p
