Thoughts, comments, etc... Personally i believe he was a fine coach and his time to put football behind him has come.

He was a great coach for some memorable games, including the 2003 Michigan vs Ohio State (100th Game), Michigan vs. Michigan State 2004 (triple OT), Michigan vs. Penn State 2005 (last second 4th down TD by Manningham) and of course, the 1997 National Championship season.

I have two opinions of Lloyd Carr:

1) As a person leading one of the best college football programs of all time, he lead with honesty, integrity, and class. He never complained about how his team should be higher up in the BCS rankings. He never attempted an onside kick when his team was up. He never had a rant about an article (whether it was about him, the program or a player). He never placed blame about losses with anyone but himself, while giving his players all the credit for wins. He respected and followed all of Michigan's great traditions including mentoring his student athelets and never letting them forget the 'student' part of that term. For this he is and shall always be loved. Thankfully he will remain with the program as associate AD.

2) As a head coach in college football he wasn't top of his class. When he first arrived at Michigan (some 28 years ago) he learned many styles and schemes for college football. When he became Head Coach he put these into play, and was successfull. But he never changed.... why should we fear the mobile quarterback and spread offense as much as we do? He was a defensive coordinator afterall and should realized that this was a serious threat to prepare for, but has been our achiles heel for years. Thankfully he seems to realize his shortcomings as coach and will remain a respected part of the program while allowing someone else to come in and take the reigns of coachdom.

Hopefully the next coach will be better than Carr, but at the same time getting a national championship, 5 Big Ten titles, and raising the win percentage (at the University with the Highest win percentage) are already high standards just to meet, let alone beat.

The king is dead, long live the king.

I'm not saying he's not a good coach but I think I remember him crying about the officating one year when Michigan lost to Ohio State.

I'm not saying he is not a good coach either... just not good enough. I seem to remember most coaches at one time or another 'crying' about officiating especially at rivalry games.

He could've in the Illinois game because the booth never looked at the fumble that Ohio State recovered in there end zone.

Looks like Miles is staying at LSU. If he's changes his mind and goes to Michigan it's going to cost Michigan 1.25 million.

Yup... I thought it was odd that Miles would have agreed to coach at Michigan, when only a few days earlier Michigan got permission to talk to him AFTER the SEC Championship game.

Now he gets the best of both worlds... gets to stay at LSU which he likes, AND gets to defeat the Buckeyes!

Miles will try to defeat the Buckeyes but since he's a wolverine he will come up short just like Carr.

I'm watching the highlights.
Miles agreed to a contract, will play OSU. The Big Ten schedule looks pretty favorable for bowl games.
Michigan vs. Florida will be close.
OSU vs LSU might be lose.
Illinois in the *gasp* Rose Bowl vs USC could be close.

Well, the Big Ten has a better chance in the lower tier bowls, anyway.

9 OSU coaches never beat Michigan. 14 OSU Coaches do not have winning records against Michigan.

Flip Side: 1 Michigan coach never beat OSU (he only played them once, and tied). 5 Michigan coaches do not have winning records against OSU.

So keep that in mind when playing against Miles (A Michigan Man, that just isn't at Michigan!).
