Review for the Sprint Palm Treo 750, I mean Centro.
Pros:
1. Large screen.
2. Fast data access.
3. TV and Radio runs pretty clean when compared to other media devices.
4. Smaller size, but still keeping a 320x320 screen.
5. Lots of PalmOS app's.
6. Good battery life.
7. Internal antenna.
8. Blazer can view Youtube videos.
9. Roam-Only option with no nag-screen.
Cons:
1. Basically a Treo 750.
2. Just slightly more memory.
3. Same OS as previous Treo's
4. Batter door is so smooth, and in such a tight fit, that removing it is almost impossible without a piece of rubber to grip it with.
5. No reset button. You have to remove the battery.
6. ROM set programs that can not be deleted like Get Voice Control and Sudoku.
7. Sprint media player is not from Sprint, it is Kinoma, which has a nag screen that comes up from time-to-time asking you to buy the full version.
8. Still no GPS.
9. I'm not sure if it will be able to access EV-DO Rev.A.
10. Still prone to Freeze-Up's and Power-Cycles.
11. You have to remove the battery door in order to gain access to the memory card slot.
12. Voice performance is not anything to brag about.
All in all the Palm Centro is a good device. The problems are few and the features make-up for any downfalls. The biggest problem I see, is that Palm really has no upgrade path for the Treo lineup. They offer very minor updates, with all of the Treo's at heart being the same. The new design is great. Smaller is better with a PDA.
Media features are nice. Sprint TV and Radio work well and looks better on a larger screen. And the keyboard issue, is not an issue. It is easy to use once you get used to it. I would rather have a smaller keyboard, then a larger phone.
I gave up on Treo's a while back because I just kept seeing a Milking Mentality with Palm. Come out with the Treo 600 with limits, that are then upgraded with the 650. Then do the same with the Treo 700, to the 750. Even Blackberry, which is one of the most basic PDA's on the market, has come out with newer designs and better features then their older models.
So is it worth it? Yes. It is cheaper and smaller, with a few minor upgrades. I wouldn't advise upgrading from a Treo 700 or 750, but if you don't have a Treo then it is worth it. Palm REALLY needs to make more innovations though. When Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, HTC, ect are making new PDA's all of the time, Palm will never be able to hold onto all that much market share by making baby-steps. And by making upgrades with minor updates; tricking customers into buying so-called new Treo versions.
I would give it an 8 out of 10. The best PDA I have used to date. I just wish it had the memory of an iPhone, not 64Mb's....
