surprised ND scored 44 points but I wonder how they would be doing if they didn't fire willingham sp. I bet there regreting giving Weis a long contract which I think he has 6yrs left.

Hmm... they could join the Big Ten like Penn State id, and now the Big Ten is dubbed "numerically challenged."

I don't see how they'd change the logo to fit a "12" in it though.

That would be a screwed up "t"

same academic standards they had in 2005 when they finished ranked 6th...when they finished 9-2

just because a team has a rough couple of years doesnt mean they should get the boot. the enrollment at MN is huge (4th largest school in the nation with 50,402 undergrads). they just axed their coach last year, give him a couple of years to get recruits, and they will be a competitive team again

i agree with you about being competitive. but never gonna win a national championship again without haveing the same recruiting criteria as their competitors. being competitive for some is ok but for lots of others, for example yankees, its enough to get you fired.

Yeah, yeah...

I remember like 2 years ago when everyone at northwestern was saying that their football team was great, and they were like 4-1, then Michigan came in and beat them.

Northwestern eneded with 7 wins.

They need to join a conference.
ND seems ot have an easy schedule every year. This year it is harder-- and look at them.

notre dame is like nwstrn, stanford and to some extent vanderbilt. all the history in the world wont win a game. the academic standards at these schools prohibit the most talented players from attending. you cant run a 4.3 40 with your brain.:)

It's not ND's fault, really. People who do so well in sports ignore academics and expect to get all their money from sports (i.e. the NFL.). So they don't have the academic abilities because of their own doing and can't make it into ND, and ND suffers.

your reply is dead on. but fans should understand this and not expect winning seasons all the time from teams that are handicapped in terms of recruiting.

Thanks. And you too are right. There is no way to expect a great football team when you lose your heisman caliber QB, most of you offense and defense, and plan on starting a freshan against an extremely tough schedule.

ND fans all over told me before the season that they would win more than 7 games.
Who expected a 1-8 start?

What really hurts about Notre Dame is that they have had almost no improvement this year. You don't expect a repeat year when you lose all of your high caliber talent and start mostly freshman and sophomores, but you do expect them to improve throughout the year.

I think if Weiss doesn't get a good amount of improvement next year (this year is over for them), he will move out of the way. This year's dismal failure is all about the coaching, and we've seen no evidence that the coaching at Notre Dame is worth a 10 year contract.

Weiss's first year he had the #5 ranked recruiting class in the nation, his second year he had the #8 recruiting class in the nation...ahead of Michigan and Ohio State BOTH years. how does that fit into the statement that the academic standards are 'too hard'??

weiss's his success was under willinghams (sp?) players, and even his own recruits are good on paper (not on the scoreboard apparently)

so it seems recruiting isnt their problem, nor is the academic standards to get good players...i would infer that either weiss isnt a good coach, or the media has over-rated ND and their recruits by quite a bit

Well they have shown improvement...
They can actually score points on offense now.

Wow. Good luck. ^^
They'll lose and Sharpley will start the second quarter.

There are only a few teams that never seem to have a losing season.

Like Michigan.
And Ohio State.
And USC.

Notre Dame always seems to be a good team but not great.
Basically, even though they're 1-8, I would prefer to have Michigan play Wisconsin then Notre Dame. Not that ND is better, which they're not, just that it seems like they have a lot of potential.

I have no idea what I just wrote. ND sucks.

wow...i hope you eat your words after this weekend.

not speaking as a wisconsin fan, but as someone who follows football...that comment is completely off base

although, i would rather have wisconsin play a division 2 school than michigan....oh wait, too soon?

:) I said "not that ND is better..."

I believe that Wisc. is tons better than ND, but ND scored 42 points against Navy and Wisconsin hasn't scored a lot against anyone (that I can recall).
What worries me more Michigan's defense more than their offense.

But a state where they make cheese doesn't strike fear into me.

OK, I admit, my comment was dumb and Wisconsin is OK. Fine, they're good. It does serve notice that both teams were ranked in the top 5 this year.

That was terrible! Now I feel stupid. Oh well, no great loss. :)

Nice job to your Badgers. Donovan (your quarterback, right?) played well even though we crushed him with hit after hit and a penalty that eliminated the interception.
