View Full Version : Centro Feedback (My First Impressions)

I took delivery on a new Palm Centro recently. This is my first smartphone and the plan is to have it replace my Sanyo 8200 and old Palm Vx. I have to say that my first impressions are not very good.

On my first day I made only one phone call and played around with a couple of the apps (nothing heavy like video) and the battery was half empty by lunch time after having been fully charged that morning.
Connecting to Power Vision seems very spotty. I'm in New York City most of the day and should have no problem connecting. (My Sanyo 8200 never had any problems.) However with the Centro it seems like I'm only connecting a third of the time. The other two thirds of the time I time out.
I have been keeping it in my shirt pocket since I don't have a case for it yet. I have quickly gotten into the habit of closing all open apps and being sure that the screen is off before putting it in my pocket to avoid buttons being pressed accidentally. (Yes, I know there's a keyguard feature and if I keep this phone I will learn to trust it in time.) However almost every time I take it out and turn the screen on I see the prompt asking me if I want to connect to the internet. Why would it do that? It makes no sense?
No WiFi? (I know the specs never claimed there was WiFi but it makes no sense to NOT have WiFi.)
I'm not sure when Palm gave up the handwriting recognition features (I know there were lawsuits regarding Graffiti) but it's silly to take such an option away. Especially on a unit like this where the keyboard is so small.
The headset jack is on the bottom (when the unit is standing upright, not the back) of the unit. This is bad placement. It makes it awkward if you're using an earbud but are either holding the phone or have it in your shirt pocket while talking. It should be on the top.
The pictures look great on the phone but are lousy when viewed on a computer. Perhaps worse than the pictures I have from my Sanyo 8200.

I am so unsatisfied that I'm strongly considering exchanging it for something else.

Anyone have any solutions for my above issues? Any have other issues with this phone?

I have now also noticed that my signal gets dropped frequently when connect to the internet. It's very frustrating.
