I need a phone for less than $100. Lemme kno what you got!
From what I understand you need a new SIM for 3G phones. Since the user has an older phone, I'd rather get a phone that doesn't have 3G so that the old SIM will work in the new phone.
That's not bad.... Which one of these (http://www.phonescoop.com/search/jump_search.php?q=motorola+v3&j.x=0&j.y=0) is it? They've had like 400 diff versions of this phone :p

I'll see if my sister in law would be interested in selling her red PEBL. I can't offer it up yet but if your friend is interested that might be a good fit. Probably $50 shipped for a ballpark. It's unlocked quadband. I bought it from Jake in July 2006. My sister in law has a red Pearl now so I don't think she's even using the PEBL.
I'll try and get pics. I also just texted Josh since most of his friends use cingular where he lives and one of them might have something that works. :)
We'll get you set up. :D

You can use all kinds of GSM phones, but Cingular's 3G phones are very limited. Just buy an unlocked GSM phone off of Ebay.

Well they didn't want a 3G phone anyway.... I'm not looking for one of those for that reason and cuz they're prolly more expensive than their cheaper counterparts :D But I wanted to see what people here had to offer before hitting up ebay, and it's lookin good so far.

I'll let you know on the PEBL when I hear back from my sister in law. Oh, josh texted me saying none of his friends have any backups laying around, so there you go.
The easiest route is to get a cingular branded phone or to get an unlocked, unbranded phone from someone who knows how to set up the phone before they send so medianet and picture mail work straight away. Buying an unlocked phone off ebay is not for a novice or even a casual user. The PEBL is quadband, unlocked and unbranded. But, I can put the settings on it before it goes out, just need to get it from my sister in law.
Jaggrey, do you know if she has a 32K or 64K SIM? If it's a 32K SIM (it'll say on the front of the card) then an older device is the easiest route, but if it's a 64K SIM, then it shouldn't be too much of an issue. :)
I'll keep you posted on the PEBL.

Thanks for your help Quill. I'm not sure which SIM they have, but FWIW it's in an older Nokia... very similar if not the Nokia 6010 that was mentioned earlier in the thread. Does that tell you anything?
Say I were to get the RAZR mentioned in this thread. What settings need to be put in to do MediaNet and Picture Mail? (tho I doubt my friend will be using it anyway) Is it something simple that you could walk me thru?

Jaggrey, that original silver V3 probably has the settings on it for cingular, since it is likely cingular branded. You'd only have to add the settings if you get a phone that is not cingular branded (either from another carrier or one direct from the manufacturer which does not have any carrier software on it).
I could definitely walk you through the settings if you go with a phone that needs to be set up. I can PM you my phone number and we can do it over the phone or we can do it over IM (I have Yahoo IM, Windows messenger and AIM ... that's how I roll).
I can also point you in the direction of an ebay seller I've dealt with many times that has cingular branded V3s for sale in that price range, if you like. :)
I actually have a silver V3, but, it's buried in a box somewhere and the screen is out. I still can't get my husband to part with his blue one. LOL.

we have a regional GSM provider here called Centennial Wireless. all their phones come that way. my friend used to have them until he went to sprint. that's his old phone.

I lied. wireless_experts doesn't have any RAZR's for sale right now in that price. My bad.
Jaggrey

Doesn't have to be a RAZR... anything under $100 that's GSM is fine... flip and camera preferred. I'll see what wireless_experts has.
