So, who will be the next in the great Yankee Legacy?

Joe Girardi?

Don Mattingly??

Maybe someone completely different??

What are you thoughts?

After listening to Joe Torre say that he wouldn't close the door on the Yankees if they offered him a better deal, meaning commitment, lets go with a long shot Joe Torre.
I have a gut feeling the Yankees are going to be reeling with all the negative press. Remember this is the team that fired Billy Martin and brought him back the following week.
If its not Joe, I think its Mattingly.

I don't know. I think Torre was very disgusted with the way the Yankees tried to Low Ball him on the deal.....And the fact that they were only offering one year was like a slap in the face:

"We'll bring you back for one year, but we want to have the option to can you if you don't win the World Series again this year!"

Show me another manager that, in 12 years, has led their team to the post season EVERY year, won the world series 4 times, appeared in it 6 times, and won their division 9 straight seasons.

They also need to realize one other thing. A lot of players have already made it known that they may not be back is Torre is no longer the Skipper. Will they go through with that threat? I don't know. But do they really want to have to start from scratch again?

I agree that if they don't crawfish a bit a bring back Torre, they'll go with Mattingly. The Torre offer was absolutely ridiculous and the Yankees deserve as much bad press as they can get. However, I also can't see them admitting that they did anything wrong and go with Mattingly just to spite all the bad press. It should be interesting indeed.

I don't think they can go with Mattingly because right now he is the most popular retired Yankee. If they hire him as manager, and he fails, there is no way they can fire him and risk him never returning to the Stadium like Yogi Berra did.
The Yankees have really boxed themselves into a corner. I am Yankee fan but I am totally disgusted with the whole situation.
I think they will take the easy way out and hire Giradi. If he fails and they have to fire him, it won't be such a total public relations nightmare.
