Dose anyone still get or use analog service on Sprint’s network?

I just tried it out with a tri-band Sanyo and once I got to an area that the phone said it was analog roaming I tried to make several calls and every time it would say “signal lost” and the call never went through.

I’m just wondering that even if a phone says its analog capable these days they’re just not powerful enough?
Or if carriers like Sprint just don’t upkeep their analog network anymore?
Or dose it have to do with what part of the country your in?
Thanks

Analog roaming will be discontinued next year. No carrier is maintaining it.

Hey JB, I'm shocked you got this handle. It's hard to believe no one had it already.

Well... it might be still available in very very remote areas out west, and in the north east -- by such carriers as US Cellular, and Alltel.

But the big two (AT&T and Verizon) are shutting down there AMPS to make more room for their digital technologies.

Also welcome to SU!

I don't believe Sprint ever had an analog network (at least not since they abandoned GSM). Any access they offer to the analog networks are through roaming agreements. They will only have access to these networks as long as the owners of the networks keep them working. After 2008 wireles companies will no longer be required to maintain analog coverage.

Thanks for the info, keep it coming.
Yeah I think wireless carriers can fade out analog starting February 08’. I figured I’d see if analog was still up and running in my area. Its sounds like it’s hit & miss dependant on what part of the country your in. Oh well at least I still have my Sanyo M1. Kind of sucked to see Sprint’s digital roaming is on VZW’s network but I do love Sanyo phones, unfortunately Sanyo’s trying to sell off their cellular business. They said there not making enough $$.
The handle JamesBond yeah I’m surprised no one had it yet either.
