I tried searching and failed to find my answer.

Thanks in advance.

The number or name, if added to your phone book, should show under the word FROM at the top of the message.

Not in my address book, who do you think "44550" is, and yes I typed it correctly.

It's probably an advertisement? If you want to see the phone book names, you need (area code) + phone number. And don't put a 1 in front of the area code.

Clearly what I typed is not a telephone number.

It's some type of premium message. Ever see those commercials, "Text 12345 to get jokes sent to you daily!" or "Text 55555 to get the crazy frog ringtone sent right to your phone!" You're signed up for something like that, and it's going to be damn-near impossible to figure out where it's coming from, and even more damn-near impossible to cancel it.

Ack anyone could have signed me up for that, right? What the heck am I gonna do? Yikes.

Like you, Sharondippity, for the last few days, I've been receiving text messages from 44550 and 44551. I don't recall ever signing up for alerts of any kind either.

Yeah, it could be that the person who had your phone # before was signed up for them, or that someone signed you up for 'em. You can call Sprint and explain the situation to see what they will do if you're incurring charges over this.

I'm not sure that is the issue in my case. I've had the same phone number for almost 5 years! This has only happened the last few days.

I just read one of the messages from 44551, and it says "try Sprint's Premium Weather service free for a week" and then it displays a link, which I don't plan on clicking.

 Check this out people..
I have been receiving MANY, up to 10 sometimes, messages from Short Code Operators: 44551, 11220, 44550, 33440.

Lets consider that I have signed up for the 1,000 SMS with Sprint, right?
who makes money if I go over? which I have and god.. our carrier has no mercy of our thumbs.. one time I over did it by 300 txts.

I have been a customer for nearly 3 years.. actually , 3 years and 3 months.
anyway..
I remember the times of unlimited text for $5.. why did I ever cancelled it? god.

I tried to make these messages stop, god .. they are eating up my texts!!!
I send reply "STOP" which is supposed to be a universal show stopper for the Short Code system.

So it replies with:
go to http://sprintwap.be3a.com/usa/myaccount.xhtml

For a while I thought it was someone impersonating sprint..
visited there with my mobile browser (i have the $15 rip off data plan)
and i saw prices like 1.99 per month of those lame messages.
I freaked out.

I went to sprint, and when I took their link to the mobile alert section and requested the official link to the mobile alert thing, it sent it to me..
I WAS SHOCKED

THEY ARE SPAMMING US!!
oh Mama screwers! I can't believe it.
After years of having a good relationship they are screwing me so low, this way..

I already wrote them, I am waiting for a response.
in the meantime I went to the sms settings and blocked the operator codes.

no idea if by blocking someone .. if you get a message from them, and gets blocked by the server.. does it get billed or counts against your quota? or its like a show stopper, don't get charged if the SOB sends you an email?

ah and i called sprint the very first day, they pretended to have no idea what I was talking about.

I am not happy.
I feel robbed, cheated on, and my trust is broken.
WHO ELSE HAS SOMETHING TO SAY?

I get messages from the same number, but I signed up for messages from msn and a few others. Did you sign up for any?

Call Sprint, it's from them most likely. I signed up for Mobile Alerts from Sprint and get things like this every couple of days. If you call in and get ahold of Vision Services, someone in that department should have the smarts to turn those off for you if you don't wish to receive them, and especially if you didn't sign up for them (you have the ability to manage these yourself as well, through the Vision portal). The first part of the messages I receive is "SprintFreeMsg" because these alerts are in fact free (mine come from a different number than yours though). Do yours say that?
