Retentions will not wa nt to push to "retain" a SERO customer as much as a long standing customer on some retention plan.
Since the $30 SERO plan is technically not even eligible for any rebates ($34.99 or higher plan for a rebate) she is lucky to be offered the $150.
Perhaps you can push for a $50 credit for renewing the agreement, which would effectively give her $200 off of the mogul. Not a great price, but better than nothing!

is your friend legitimately out of contract at least? because if she's only 75 eligible, and you're mad that retention offered only the 150....

I'll tell you this about retention... the fact that the Sprint techs have exchanged my phone 9 times in the past year due to phone defects disqualified me for any upgrades. But I'm out of contract and have a MUZIQ. I tried contacting Sprint in May for an upgrade and they were really tough with me. Family plan (5 lines) at $100 (old fair and flex plan with 100 overage minutes @ $5 each)... plus 23% discount, but I'm full of add-on features, making my bill $150 a month... but I hope they're not toughening up!

Make sure you don't go crazy with calling them. They notate your account every time you call and they will read that before taking your call! Be careful!

As with all similar service businesses you are certainly assigned a numeric value based on an algorythm combining factors such as a base profit of your account, added high profit items such as international long distance use, and to a lesser degree time in service, and bill payment timeliness. Any sprint rep is probably looking at that right next to your name when you account is called up.
Retenion people also work on resigning quotas as well as buckets of perks they can hand out. If you get a retention specialist who has a new bucket of perks you are better off. you are also better off if you are informed but polite. Timing is best one two two weeks before contract expires.
Also keep in ind that if you did the correct strategy which is get your deal and then after add your business or credit union discount you probably are at minimum profitability.
One of the most effective strategies is to sign up for items that are NOT discounted but can be removed (eg: tep, nav, locater, etc) immediately after the contract sets in. this adds value to your account and negotiating strength.
Sprint also probably has cycles of emphasis on per account profitability alternating with market share and gross sign ups emphasis. That is probably more or less a matter of timing luck for you.

Interesting post. :)
Funny thing about my relationship with Sprint, I've NEVER been a big spender with them, yet they keep giving me FREE phones and plenty of goodies.

...and im spending:
Line 1 - $79.99 (FT1400), $15 (Vision), $20 (Unl. Family Txt), $7 (T.E.P.)
Line 2 - $9.99 (FT1400), $15 (Power Vision), $7 (T.E.P.)
Line 3 - $9.99 (FT1400), $15 (Power Vision), $7 (T.E.P.)
Line 4 - $9.99 (FT1400), $15 (Power Vision), $7 (T.E.P.)
$110 for a 4 line 'Power Pack Family Plan'
$20 for Unlimited Family Texting
$60 for Vision/PV on all 4 lines
$28 for T.E.P. on all 4 lines
Grand Total = $228 for 4 lines, plus taxes.
I used to be spending close to $300 because of overages from txting. But that Unl. Family Txt is awesome. I did have to change from a Fair & Flexible to a Power Pack plan to get it, which renewed my contract on all the lines, but its ok.
...and after all that, they wont exchange my 3 month old Q for a Mogul like a lot of people on here said they did for them.
