I was talked into a Retentions plan last year for 1 line of service with 1000 min and nights and weekends at 7 for 40$ + tax each month. I'm satisfied with this plan as all I wanted was plenty of minutes at an affordable rate. I don't have roaming or txt but I don't really need either one so that's fine.
I'm wanting to add a line for my wife now though. What I'm wanting is to add a line without having to switch off my current plan and share the 1000 minutes. I don't mind paying an extra 10 or 15 dollars for the second line, but the one rep I talked to kept trying to switch me to a family plan that cost 89.99 for 1400 minutes. I'm not willing to pay double or more just to get a second line. Is what I want doable or would I be wasting my time trying to talk to different reps?
Thanks

'tis possible to add a new line to this existing plan. it should be an extra 10 bucks a month. the only plan i know that doesnt let you add a new line is a sero plan. why dont you do this online? there should be an add a line option...

I've tried doing it online. After I enter my number I get a message something like "Because you are on a shared minutes plan with only one line it is not possible to add a line online at this time. Please call this number (insert 800 number here) to add a line." Thats when I called the rep who tried to talk me into switching to a totally different plan.

There used to be a retention plan ( I was actually on it) a year or two ago that had what you're looking for - $50 for 1,000 AT minutes for two lines. I would guess, if it's still available, you would need to speak to someone in the retention department (another term for account services) to find it.
It was not as simple as doing an add a line to your current plan. It was structured as entirely different plan. Don't know exactly Why Sprint does it that way but I would attempt to get Sprint CS to connect you the department that gave you your present plan (which is also a retention plan).

you cannot, unfortuanatly, add a second line to the $40 1000 min ret plan. There was one for $50 but its no longer available. You could put the second line on its own $40 a month 1000 min plan. (why not if you are gonna pay 89.99 for it on a shared plan) or switch up to the new shared pp plan, has a few more features, but you would be better prolly to stay on the one you have.

Good to know that my plan will not be available when it comes up.
I'm on the $50 for 1000.

Why not add a SERO plan at $30.00 a month with all the included freebies? Check the SERO threads for more info or to request info on adding such a plan.
With a SERO plan for line 2, you would have the $40/1000 plan and a separate $30/500 plan with 7pm nights, roaming, data (vision or powervision depending on your phone) and unless it has changed unlimited text messaging is included also. Your bill would be $70, which is what the $50/1000 plan was supposed to be with a $20 AAP (since it was a free and clear plan AAP's were $20 "list" price)
No hassle of getting a 2nd line added to the retentions plan, just the process of getting SERO with included features that are worth $30 by themselves (unlimited data and SMS would be $30 by themselves!)

Thanks everyone. I guess I just won't be adding a line anytime soon. If it weren't for having to pay that much more I would, but oh well, I don't think we'll use the second line that much to justify paying 30 or 40 extra. Maybe when my contract is up next September they'll put me on a different retention plan with 2 lines.
As far as getting a SERO for the second, I had thought of that, but I don't really need all those extra features so I'd just be paying for what I don't need. I have a Power Vision phone right now (A900) but Power Vision doesn't reach where I work, which is where I practically live and personally I hate texting. It's just so much easier for me to call than punch in texts back and forth. :)
