View Full Version : Family Plan and Retentions

I'm hoping someone could help me out...

I currently have a family plan through retentions and my contract is up soon.

The plan:
$60 per month for 1200 minute
Night/weekends at 8pm
FIMF
2 total lines no additional charge

My wife and I don't use nearly that many minutes. I was hoping there is another family plan with less minutes. Also, what additional options can I expect from a new retention plan if I decide to go this route again? (free txt/free web?) What new phones are being offered? Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks!

you can ask them to drop you to 700-1000min, free web and texts. or being out of contract u can switch to 2 sero 500 plans that give 500min, n/w @7, unlimited text/web for $30 each line

Thanks for the help Ghetto!

I've seen $50 a month for 1000min family plans out there. Would free web and texts be something I could get on this plan?

if you get a retention plan you won't be able to get a retention offer like free text or web. Getting a sero plan just because you are out of aa will still be hard to do, sprint is cracking down on it b/c its supposed to be a referal program (Sprint Employee Referral Option) and you can't refer someone to a companywho is already here :( there is a ret plan for 500 mins for $50 but thats the only shared one avail now. there is 1000 min for $40 but that cannot be shared and would have to be per line unfortuanatly. you can also call and see what retention deals and discounts you can get with being on a regular plan....if you use attachable features it may be more beneficial to go to regular plan and take retention discounts and freebies.

I currently have the same plan. I used to be on the $50/1000 minutes plan but that was over a year ago. I don't know if it's still available.
Nowadays we don't use more than 800 minutes a month and I considered trying to go back to the $50 plan but during the course of my contract I was able to get an additional 10% loyalty discount added to the 5% I already had. That was followed by another 10% off via an NVP discount. With all the other perks I feel like I'm getting a tremendous deal already, even better than SERO, so I'll not push my luck and stay with what I have.
If the $50/1000 minute plan is no longer available perhaps you could convince retentions to add a loyalty discount to cut your costs. They might be able to offer 500 free texts, too.

I'm guessing 500 free txt's (per line?) is a pretty easy perk to get?

Do they ever offer free web also?

I don't know if you could get any free perks with it, but where I'm from all the Sprint stores are advertising 2000 minutes for $49.99/Mo untill September 4th. So maybe you can haggle around with that? Just a shot.

There are some steps you can follow if you cannot get a rep to switch your plan to sero.

The first thing to do is get two prepaid phones and port your Sprint number to them.
This would kill your account with Sprint.

Next, you'd have to go to sprint.com/sero and sign up.

You can use tristan.kime@sprint.com for the email, gary.d.forsee@sprint.com, or even joeblow@sprintemi.com

for whatever reason the @sprintemi.com works with anything.

Next step would be to pick a phone and sero plan.

Once recieved and activated, you can port your Sprint numbers back.

Takes longer, but could be easier since members are reporting difficulties getting a rep to switch an existing account over.

good luck

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm going to be calling soon. Hopefully $50/1000 and free txt/web isn't going to be too tough to get.

Will they also give me a solid discount on 2 phones? The wife likes the Sanyo DLX...

So I just called via *2 and said 'cancel'

The rep told me Sprint no long offers retention plans. Pretty much told me my plans was better than what they are currently offering.

Am I going about this the wrong way? What number do people use to contact retentions? Any advice?

Thanks!

Sorry to bump the thread again, but the wife is driving me nuts asking about our new plan... ;)

Sorry,

I can't be of much help, I haven't needed to call Sprint since April 2006, when I negotiated my latest retention plan. I have been a customer since 1999, and have been on retention plan after retention plan. I hardly doubt they are no longer doing these plans. I think you just got an incompetent rep. It's all about luck of the draw.

Good luck!

Honestly, if you want text messaging and vision / powervision service, you should ask about SERO. It wont "save" you any money at $30 per line monthly, but it will get you 7pm nights, free vision and texting (last i saw texting is free for unlimited) mobile to mobile.

You would likely lose the FIMF option, but 7pm nights should cover the loss of those minutes, and 500 minutes each sounds like about what you need.

I've been told many times that "retention" plans don't exist anymore, but amazingly enough when pressed I have been told I can up to $60/1200 if I really need to. The drop to $50/1000 and discounts on vision and texting will still put you at $60 a month or more, which is why I suggest SERO if you can do it :)

Does anyone have a basic script of things that I should or should not say when I get in touch with retentions?

So I just got off the phone with account services/retentions.

They offered me to keep the same plan I have ($60/1200, 2 lines) but also:
Unlimited txt for $3 per line
Vision $5 per line.
$70 one time credit each line

The rep was very nice, but wouldn't go for free txt or web. I'll probably try again another time as I wanted to cut my bill, not increase it. I guess I should also ask for a larger loyalty discount. Also, they only offered the DLX for the web price. Is the $70 discount considered a phone discount??

Thanks!

Lenny, I'm on the $60/1200 plan also. They've told me several times that the 60/1200 is the only family retention plan they have right now. But I think its a jam up plan.

How does that $60.00 for 1200 minute plan actually break out. Is this an 800 minute plan with 200 bonus minutes on each line. Or is this some special plan that is just 1200 minutes shared over 2 lines. Just curious.

1200 anytime over 3 lines. All lines have equal use the 1200mins. They are all shared. I've talked with them several times now, and I'm pretty confident its the highest minute family retention plan offered at this time.

Finally spoke to someone who knew what they were talking about.

I kept my same basic plan ($60/1200, FIMF, M2M etc), but he included a Vision pack free on each line. The rep was really honest and up front. Can't ask for more than that. Question... does txt messaging come with the Vision Pack? If not, think I can get 500 free txt for each line???

I also got two Sanyo DLX phones, heavily discounted. I'm pretty happy.... how do you think I did?

Is the 1200 ATM $60 still available through retention? I currently on the 1000 ATM 7pm $40 and want to renew to a family plan. When I asked about the 1200 atm family retention plan, the CSR said it's no longer available.
