View Full Version : Katana II/DLX Vibrate/Ringer Question

I've searched and not found an answer to this, so maybe one of the current katana owners here can help me. If you have a katana on the "vibrate" ringer and then plug it in, does it automatically go to audible ring? Or do you have to manually change it to audible?
I know it seems like a trivial thing, but to me, that means missed calls.
Thanks for any help!

I was just going to post the same question. I have a Katana DLX, and even if it's on vibrate mode when I plug it in to charge it, it rings (audible)! When it's unplugged, it does vibrate. I wonder if it's just our particular phones, or if we need to exchange...??

when my sanyo 8400 is set to vibrate and it is plugged in it rings also which i think it is supposed to do. i dont know if the DLX is based on the same premise. if so than it is normal for the DLX to ring audibly on vibrate when it is plugged in.

it does the same thing on my katana II. I came to the conclusion that it is probably a designed software feature. In my opinion it is to protect the charger port from becoming damaged by vibration. With the universal port it is easy to pop out and its pretty stable if the phone were to fall or move when being called but with the proprietary port it clips in and could easily pull on the port or damage the pins if the phone were to move or fall during charging.

Older Samsung phones have the same behavior. I think the idea has nothing to do with possible damage but rather if the phone is on the charger, then it is unlikely that the user has it in his/her pocket and wouldn't be able to feel the vibration. If the user really didn't want to get calls, then he/she would have set the ring to silent. In my experience, the algorithm is reasonable and usually does what I want, though sometimes I do have to set the phone to silent when charging...

It is supposed to do this. When on the charger, even if the phone is set to vibrate, many phones will produce and audible ring. This is for both safety and practicality. With some phones, it's a fire hazard to have it vibrate while there's a electric current flowing through tiny unstable connections. Also, the issue deals with the logic that people don't charge their phones in their pockets, and so you wouldn't feel it vibrate.
