I went from a Samsung A900 to A900M, then the M610. I have no experience with Sanyo phones.
I am thinking about the Katana DLX and have some questions.
1) SMS: On Samsung phones, if it cannot send an SMS for whatever reason (low signal, send error, etc.), it gives up (does not try to resend) and shows as an "unsent" message in the outbox, where I have go check to know that it was unsent, and try to resend. Annoying...
Is this also the case with Sanyo phones? I think a friend's Sanyo phone will try to resend until it succeeds. Is this true?
2) Java/J2ME applications. In the Samsung phone, there is no way to "suspend" a Java application or "put it in background". That is, if I have, say, Google Maps running and I want to make a call or send an SMS. Will Sanyo phones keep the app running while I navigate away from the Java environment and return to it where I left off?
3) Does the phone have a built-in email client? If so, does it support IMAP4 and IMAP folders?
I read through the manual and do like the more verbose icons (e.g., dedicated icons for different types of messages). Samsung phones only show an envelope. You have to go look to see what kind...
Many thanks.

Does the DLX support data roaming (1xRTT while roaming on Verizon) and SMS roaming (allowing one to send and receive SMS while roaming on Verizon)?
Thanks again!

The DLX has an awesome built in Email client...and with IMAP it supports PUSH Mail... I use the "Email" theme as on the "Homepage" i have an icone that i can scroll to and it shows me what new mail i have... if you don't have them email theme input this ##5282277# and you'll get it back! Oh, and if your phone locks up when you select email from the messaging menu, input this code ##EMAILRST#, then press ok, and it should work fine after that...
as far as IMAP folders, i'm not sure...i havne't set up folders for my aol account, sorry...
have fun!

OK, for sending the application to the background, the DLX has an application manager that you can send java stuff to the background, and resume it later...the only thing this doesn't work with is the music player, and sprinttv...

Has anyone encountered situations where SMS cannot be sent or is not sent, and the phone keeps trying until sent? This would be a great feature if that is how the phone works.

I do not have a so called "High End" phone, but I do have an 8300; the same SMS policy probably applies - If a message is unsuccessful for whatever reason, you cant opt to "retry" or it goes into the outbox... As you come in and out of service, your message will tried to be resent as many times as your service changes. Occasionally for me, it still doesn't send, but you can just goto the outbox folder and press "send" - it should work.
As far as an application manager, I know the newer high end phones have 'em - but my phone doesn't. It does, however, allow you to receive a call/text while in application... From there you can respond/answer and you will be given an option to continue the java application
Each item having it's own indigenous icon is awesome - I agree.
If you have a Sanyo, you may also be able to hold down the side button and have an incoming call sent to a voice recorder - I just learned about it... I love it. I believe Sanyo pens it "Call Screening". It's very nice.

Being a former owner of the Sanyo DLX, I would recommend you keep your m610 for now and wait a while longer. Q4 is when Sprint usually gets more phones. I heard, rumor of course for now, that the m610 replacement from Samsung is VERY high end and will have a 3megapixel camera.
