First off, I have a SERO plan. I have the Katana and decided to break open the credit card and buy the Mogul at full retail. I bought the phone and went home to switch the ESN's. Customer service said they couldn't switch them because of the SERO plan I'm on. The guy at CS was really clueless on what to do. He said the 'system' wanted him to change me to a completely different plan... which I wasn't about to do. So for know I didn't switch the ESN's and thought I would ask here if anyone else has had this same experience.
Thanks :)

call *2 and get tech support or account services. Explain that your on SERO and regular CS cant figure out how to do your phone change.
I believe it is the fact that the old phone is a vision phone and the new one a powervision phone. Either of those departments should be able to do the swap with no change in your plan.

Do all SERO plans come with unlimited Vision or Power Vision? BTW, what's the difference between the two?

Yes, all sero plans come with unlimited vision / powervision. The plans are coded according to the type of phone you had when you activated the SERO plan, so it was vision speeds for the katana. In reality, it doesnt matter what the code says, as a powervision phone will pick up the faster powervision service even if the plan is coded for just regular vision.
regular vision is 1xRTT speed service, powervision is EVDO. Think of it as the difference between dialup and DSL at home.
The problem you are having is sprints computers recognize the "regular" vision code and a mis-match with the new powervision device. It alerts the CS rep that they need to change your plan. If you get a rep with access to P2K, they can change the ESN without touching your plan.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll call tech support tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Dan is exactly right on the differences between your original Vision device and your new Power Vision device. The original CSR who told you that you would need to change your plan, was actually correct to an extent. Tech Support will actually need to switch you from the SERO plan with Vision coded into it, to the SERO plan with Power Vision coded into it. It shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes with Tech Support. Good luck!

as it was said, they may switch you to a sero plan with power vision instead of the vision you have now. there is a very big upgrade in speed. with power vision(evdo) you can download a song from the sprint music store in less than 20seconds. if you were in an area that only had vision coverage and tried to download the same song, it would take around 1min.

I went through this too and the rep was an a hole don't let them change anything the rep I got was ignorant and put hateful notes on my account so if you get a cs rep that cannot do it say thank you and hang up. as said get tech support or employees cs. good luck and look out

Yeah, I just went threw this experience when I was trying to switch a number from a Katana to the Katana DLX, which really pissed me off because I was on hold for forever. Guess I'll try again later on today.

Okay, everything went smoothly this morning. I called Employee Customer Service (including SERO plans) and she switched my ESN's w/no problem. The # I called is
866-250-2221. There was no hold time and it took about 3 minutes.

First off, glad to see it got done! As far as P2k goes, he would have to still be in that system. Most employee related accounts (EDRP, SWAC, and SERO) have been moved to ensemble...or are about to be. I know all my families and friends accounts are in enemble.

As previously mentioned, since your current SERO has vision and new new plan, and billing system ensemble, wont take that to the new mogul.
Call tech support or account services, they should have more of an idea on how to handle/get you on the right path in a matter of minutes.

in regards to the confusion with the sero plan and the vision and powervision plan.
I work in a call center for sprint and the way this works is easy. sero plans have a different account type then a normal consumer plan. a sero plan for a vision plan has a different code than one with a power vision. when we go into the system to do the phone change it requires us to change the plan to add your phone because of the codes being different. what we have to do is change the code from a #c sero $30 to #c seroevdo $30 or whatever price plan you have. so yes it can be done it does take time and the rep may be confused on how to do this. hopefully this helps for future reference

Dan is 100% right ;]. I went from a a900 to a PPC and went through that. Had to find some one who had the codes to switch it the SERO plan and add EVDO option.

The issue rests in the fact that switching plans will generally reset your contract date, just because you went from a vision to a powervision phone. Most customers may not care, but some dont want to renew their agreements for a "simple" ESN swap.
It's too bad that sprint had to make up multiple codings for SERO depending on if your device was vision or PVision. The basic plan doesn't change, so a simple code could have been entered into the system making SERO plans work for either device type.
Some reps will tell the customer that keeping a "regular" vision plan will result in their not getting powervision speeds on a PVision device. I can tell you that the code on the plan deals only with billing, and an EVDO capable device will access data at the highest speed available on the tower it is connected to. I have 3 powervision devices and only one actually has a powervision plan, yet all connect at EVDO speeds.

Hi, Dan that is correct anytime you change a plan the system requires a contract change after 6 months the right plan promise. it is a coding issue and i deal with the issue everyday with sero plans. they are great plans and i work with the customer to make them satisfied and to apply a high priority note to honor original contract date unless they upgrade there phone which would then renew contract.
