View Full Version : Retentions Said "No"! Suggestions?

Hi there,

Today, my husband (who has had svc. with Nextel over 2 years) bought 2 Blackberry 8830 World Edition phones with the rebate advertised at http://mobilebusiness.sprint.com/bb8830/?id9=vanity:8830 (basically, he got each phone for $199 after all rebates). I have a separate account with Sprint, but didn't qualify for the whole rebate he got, because I've only had my current Sprint account for a little over 1 year. I called Customer Service, who then transferred me to Retentions when I mentioned that I could go over to Verizon who'd give me the same rebate as my husband, because I'd be their new customer. Customer Service said that I may have a chance at getting the rebate rather than Sprint losing me to Verizon, but the rep said she couldn't offer it, but Retentions may...so she transferred me. I told Retentions my story and the Rep there gave me a flat out "no". The only rebate I qualify for is $75 off (of $549).

I want to call again and see if I can get a different Rep to say "yes", but I don't want to call too much and have my account flagged. What do you all think? Or do you have another suggestion?

In case I can't get the Blackberry w/the full rebate, does anyone know if there are any current good deals out there on a Treo?

Thanks!

~Catch

Since you are in the middle of your contract it will be hard for you to get the new customer pricing. Plus with the Blackberries, in order to have web and email you need to add a $40 a month Blackberry data plan. It would be pretty hard for you to get the price you want on the Blackberry or the Treo with where you are in your contract.

think of it this way. you cancel and sprint gets $200.00 or they give you $200.00 plus to stay.

its not in sprints business intrests to keep you for new customer pricing.

Thanks for the reply. I was good to go with the additional $40 per month, it just doesn't seem fair that I should have to pay $75 more than a new customer or $75 more than my husband who has been with Nextel a year longer than I've been with Sprint. I mean, I am a current paying customer, yet someone can walk in off the street and pay $75 less than me. I told Retentions Verizon is willing to give me the full $150 off (plus other rebates), but the Rep didn't seem to care. The guy at the Sprint store said it's because they know they have me with the etf.

I'm looking at Treo prices now, but I really wanted the BB8830. I travel internationally and it would have been useful. I guess I can use my husband's when I'm out of the U.S. though.

Thanks, again! :)

Makes sense when you put it that way, Dan...thanks!

you can try ecare. they will give u the $150 off more than calling. they will note your account or u can order right from them if they give it to you. just say you have a few months before your $150 rebate, but due to traveling the 8830 would fit ur needs better and u would gladly renew contract

Thanks, GhettoCowboy, I'm going to give that a try. :)

Just pay up.. Its $500, you will prob keep the phone for 2 years and use it every day. So its $250 a year for a phone that you will use everyday. You probably have a few pairs of shoes or a purse you spent $500 on that you only wear once a year... So spending $500 on a phone doesnt seem that bad now does it?

Treo is $30 more than the 8830 after rebates.. I just came from the treos to the BB and I will never go back, the new 755p is worlds above the 700p but I couldnt get a new 755p to last more than a month without a hardware failure, and several other people who have the 755p are also on there 2nd or 3rd ones averaging 1 a month.

Sorry you've had problems with your phone, Andrew. Glad you're happy with your BB now, though. Makes me more convinced that I need to get the BB instead of the Treo (which I've been considering). I can't just pay up though, bc my husband's not going for it...especially when he just bought 2 with full rebates (and they threw in a few extra accessories). :(

Another quick question. I see the phone I want for sale online. If I buy it (and it says Sprint on it), but it's from another store, will I have a problem having it activated with the same number, etc.?

Never mind...I've got my answer. :(

You should have tried 5 days ago. They give big discounts at the end of the month when they are desperate to reach their goals

I got it! Contacted eCare like GhettoCowboy suggested. They gave me a $75 credit. So, now I have the $75 credit, the $75 dollar rebate and the $75 mail-in rebate. Saved $225 when all is said and done. Purchased the 8830 earlier this evening and I'm good to go! A million thanks for everyone's help...esp. GhettoCowboy. SprintUsers and eCare rock!!!

so how much did you pay before the mail in rebate? did you order through the store, sprint.com or ecare?

Dan said it all, the ETF is their trump card over anything. Once the two years are up, its gravy for them if you stay but if you leave, they just chalk it up to something else, its never sprint/vzw/alltel/att/t-mobile's fault, remember that. Atleast, thats how they feel.

How do you purchase a phone through eCare? I tried inquiring about a phone several months back but they just gave me the general # to call.

GhettoCowboy, I bought it at the store. I paid $475 for the phone (actually $512 after tax). With the credit and the mail-in, I still save another $150, taking the base cost down to $325.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I'm a happy camper now. :)

you can just ask them to place the order
