View Full Version : Problems connecting to POP (email) servers other than Sprint's

Today I have been experiencing intermittent problems connecting to foreign email servers (i.e., other than pop.sprintpcs.com) through my Treo via PowerVision. The email client I am using will just sit there saying "connecting..." when this occurs.

It has happened twice today, once this morning, between 8-10am EDT and now this evening (11pm ET). It's almost like Sprint's blocking port 110 (POP) outside their network or something.

Note that I can connect to pop.sprintpcs.com to get my Sprint email, and it does not seem to be affecting web browsing.

Interestingly, switching the phone preferences to ROAM (Verizon) and connecting to PowerVision through their servers yields the same result.

Anyone else?

Having the EXACT same issue tonight on my 755p with both Snappermail and Versamail. It corrected temporarily around 10pm (EST), then recurred. It's clearly a Sprint-side problem. This has happened a couple times before and usually lasts a few hrs. If it persists till morning I'll be calling Tech Support (maybe they'll cancel my service <ggg>).

I use Versamail and no problems connecting GMail using POP. My other email accounts I have set up to use IMAP which is much more efficient.

Well, as usual, this issue resolved by morning... connecting to Earthlink POP fine now. It's frustrating, because I intermittently lose email access for hours, without rhyme nor reason. It's clearly something on the Sprint network, as I hadn't messed with my Treo or Snappermail settings. Hopefully it won't happen very often.

I have been having this problem since last thursday. I called Sprint and the eventually told me that they were having problems with Data; however the problems had been resolved. I still can not access any outside mail servers, gmail or my work's server. Anyone else having this problem? Someone else in my office couldn't access them either from their sprint phone. My server is up, gmail is up, tried my comcast account and can no longer can connect to that either

I am in Ohio and have not experienced any problems.

My 755p is still having intermittent connection failures with Earthlink/Mindspring, typically lasting 1-3 hrs. This occurs despite having a strong signal (4+ bars), and I can even *directly* log into my email account via Blazer during that time (but it takes multiple page views, then user name and password, to finally log on).

It happened to me twice this week, so far.

I'm calling Sprint support tomorrow re other (billing error) issues, and will mention this problem as well.

I have 2 earthlink accounts and a school account. I'm not having any probs, when I checked pop mail, but have really switched to mail2web and have had no problems with that.

Interesting.

I have a Sanyo 8400 and have my PCS Mail configured to get external mail from a different ISP. It's always worked fine. Until yesterday. Now every single time I try to access it, I get a "mail.isp.com is not responding" message.

I accessed the external e-mail setup via sprint.com, and the server settings are correct. But on the status screen, it shows "Error!" and I cannot fix this issue.

Anyone else having this particular problem?

(Note: I can access my ISP's mail through the Sprint Mobile E-mail app. It works great, and I've had no problems at all.)
