My mom has a 5 year old sprint plan that has 3 lines. Hers, my aunts, and my cousin.
My aunt today ported her 2 numbers to cingular ( i guess so she can pay more) so my mom has this 2500 minute plan that she only uses about 500-600 minutes a month.

She wants to get on the Sero plan i'm on ($50/1250minutes).

Should she
A. Try to call and get it changed
or
B. go to the SERO site and port her number?

she is not under contract and wants to upgrade her treo 650 to the 755.

thanks in advance.

if shes out of contract she can just sign up for a sero plan porting her number that will then cancel her other sprint plan and start her up on the sero plan

You can't "port" a number from one Sprint plan to another.

If she is out of contract, it should be a lot easier to get a retentions rep to switch you to SERO. Just explain that if it can't be done, she will cancel.

If they won't do it, she could sign up for a new line on SERO with a new phone number, then port her phone to prepaid, then port it back to the SERO line.

I've been told that you should always sign up for a new line first, then cancel the old one, b/c you may not be eligible for new customer pricing for a few weeks/months after you cancel, but I don't know if this is true or not.

Unfortunately, new Sprint customers are able to port their number from their existing carrier to Sprint when they sign into the plan but existing customers cannot port numbers from an existing Sprint account. Therefore, existing customers still in a subscriber agreement are required to activate a new line of service with a Two-year Agreement and are issued a brand new phone number. Furthermore, an existing customer may cancel the account early but a termination fee is required if the existing account is within the contract period.

An existing customer who has fulfilled the term agreement is treated like a brand new customer and is issued a brand new phone number.

Yes she can get a SERO plan since she is out of contract.

Also, don't call into retentions and threaten to cancel your service. It will do you no good. They hear that same line 100 times a day. Just be courteous and respectful the representative that you talk to on the phone. It will get you a lot farther.

This thread will probably be closed so the question can be posted under one of the SERO threads, but Ill try to get something in before then.

You can in fact port a Sprint number to SERO, but its not easy. I did that just last month with my phone. I was out of contract, and what they had to do was start me a new line of service, then assign my old phone a new number, and put the number I wanted on hold. Then they put in a request to put the old number on the new plan. I then stopped the old plan, and had a new SERO plan with my old number.

But I did spend about 4 days on the phone with CS, and had to call several times before I found a rep that would help me with it. But it was actually one of the folks in employee accounts (who you call if you want SERO) who suggested it.

Good luck!

i agree with retentions. dont make threats, just call and say u had a 3 line family plan, and the other 2 lines went on their own. your out of contract an dont need the family plan with so many minutes. say you were told about sero and have an email. say u ould like to make it easy and switch to sero since ur out of contract instead of canceling out the line and signing back up with a sero plan. being out of contract makes it easier to switch to sero and it shouldnt be that hard as long as u know how to talk and dont take we cant do that for an answer. if they try to say they cant make something up, say well my friend was out of contract and was switched to sero without any trouble a month ago or something.

as for the 755p u should get the sero pice of $200 no mir. u may be able to get it cheaper if u bring up the phone 1st, say ur 650 is on its last legs and would like to stay but u cant afford the 200. say u can only do 150 and were looking at another carrier with the blackberry pearl for only 100. you may also want to mention the price for the 755 on wirefly.com or letstalk.com and if u get a good rep sometimes they match or come close to that price. say well if i upgrade through such and such they will give me this price

as soon as my aunts 2 numbers are ported to her cingular account i'm going to try to call retentions first. if that doesnt work. i'll just try to get it ported straight to a sero account. i'm sure it will work out either way.

thanks for the responses.
