When you say you're getting it every time you get an email, what do you mean? In other words, every time you get an email at your Sprint email account, or are you using the Sprint Mobile Email app, etc.

Also, please do not bump threads within only hours of the last post. A bump post should be at least two days from the last post in the thread.

Has anyone else called Sprint to see if they know what's going on with these texts? I called once several days ago and the CSR I talked to knew nothing about them. Since there are several of us that are getting them, it seems more likely that it's something from Sprint's side, no?

Is anyone still getting these? Mine stopped for a while, then today I've gotten 5 so far.

Well, you can always block them.

Log into your account and go to Text Messaging under My Online Tools then select settings and preferences. You can block numbers there.

Here's an answer on how to stop them:
BuzzAboutWireless.com (http://forums.buzzaboutwireless.com/baw/board/message?board.id=OffTopicRantsandRaves&message.id=123#M123)

Still no idea on what they are other than "BREW" is a programming language used by a lot of smarter phones...

"BREW is Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless, aka a way of writing programs for some types of mobile phones (mostly Verizon). If what follows looks like garbage, and there's a lot of it, then it means something is trying to send you a program via BREW. I don't know the specifics of it, but i'd assume the gibberish is either the program itself (if there's a LOT of it) or some kind of code to tell the phone to go get the program."

Yesterday I received more than 20 of these 9114 messages. I called Sprint and they were clueless. After reading this forum I placed a block on the number. We'll see if it actually stops the flood. THANKS to all!

9114 is the 'Push' text message alert from Yahoo. It's trying to tell you that you have Yahoo mail.

You can block these. Either through the Yahoo mail site or on sprint.com. If you don't have time to block them yourself online, you can call customer care or tech support and they can block the messages for you.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks so much. I put a block on the 9114 number via the website and it seems to be working. I didn't realize that these might be push alerts. If they are, the whole SMS thing could get very expensive - or drive everyone to pay the extra $15/mo for unlimited messaging.

Thanks again for your response.

I am now getting this problem as well since I signed up my centro with versa mail and yahoo. I am trying to get on my online tools but when I click on that it brings up a blank page. I called sprint to see if they could block this damn 9114 and they didnt know what I was talking about and I was very clear about it. Anyone have any ideas do you think I should just go to the store???

Hate to bring this back from the dead but I actually know why this is happening. It's a problem with Sprint Mobile email application that comes with most phones. It's actually quite helpful since it will allow you to get push email (ie instant email or blackberry like email) straight to your phone. The problem is if you uninstall the program or stop using the program without resetting your email information on the server, it will keep sending the email (push) notification in the form of the 9114 text message gibberish. I have the Touch and found out through trial an error and noticing that the texts come at the same time I kept getting emails.

A more decisive fix instead of just blocking the text message sender is by using the Sprint email program and re-enter your infomation for your previous email account. If you don't remember just start sending emails to your various email accounts (allow a few minutes between each) and wait to see if you get a text from 9114. When you find out which email it is, you should register with that same account again.

Once you have done that select re-register under the menu. Don't enter anything after that. It will clear your info off the server and now you can uninstall the email program AND you will stop getting the texts.

So in short, don't blame the gmail or yahoo, it's not their fault. The program is really to blame although it's a symptom of push email which is nice to have for free.

I just activated a 9C last night and these started right away.
I haven't checked but for awhile last night both phones were receiving the same text messages.
I wonder if Sprint is still pushing emails to the Rumor(?). I didn't clear the phone before deactivating it.

I'll try checking which email account is doing it and maybe blocking as a last resort.

I switched to an 800w and I think I'm still getting these from the mail account set up on my Centro.

I got three of these in a row yesterday after I deleted my sprint mobile email. so either the emails are still trying to come through (if it happens to be in relation to email) or the system doesn't realize that I have deleted my sprint mobile email...however...you can block these messages through sprint.com. :headbang2
login-->my online tools-->text messaging-->settings&prefs
from here you can block any unwanted senders, including shortcodes. :) the person sending you the message (or system) will get a reply back that you wish not to receive text messages from their number.

Right. If you delete the SME application without first removing the accounts you have set up on there, there's no way for the mail servers (yahoo, gmail, etc) to know that you no longer have SME, so they'll continue to send alerts to your phone. The best way to fix the problem is to reinstall SME, re-set up the accounts you had before, and then remove them from SME. Once that is done, you can safely delete SME again and you shouldn't get any more of the 9114 texts.

I think I figured out the problem. If you use versamail, go to preferences, then under delivery, click on alerts. if alert me of new email is checked, you will get a text message alerting you of new email. in check that box, no more alerts...

If it is indeed an email notification, then it must be Sprint Mobile Mail, not VersaMail. Uninstalling SMM is not sufficient, you have to delete each account first (or setup each account, again, after reinstalling SMM and re-delete said account).

Edit: I have tested this method and have not received any text messages from 9114.

P.S. This is the dumbest way to notify anybody of anything (I know, this is not an official forum). :(

yeah its caused by SME and removing it without deleting the email accounts first ..

After going through all that in my previous post, I just received another text message from 9114. The "solution" without having to try and figure out which email address is triggering this (assuming it is an email alert) is to go to SprintPCS 2way SMS -> "Block Messages" (http://messaging.sprintpcs.com/textmessaging/settings), plug in "9114", and save.

This is my take on these "9114" messages. I have a palm treo pro. I previously had a palm 755. When I would have problems, I would have to hard reset the phone and hot sync to restore it; however, before I could get it hot synced I would start getting these very texts. Once I had restored all of my email settings in the Sprint mobile email accounts, the texts would stop. My trouble now, is with the Palm Pro, you dont need the sprint mobile. You simply input your email account info/passwords, and they push as often as you have the phone set. I have the tech guy at my local sprint store working on this. I will be surprised if he comes up with anything though!

Is there anyway to get this removed properly if I don't have the old phone anymore? I recently went from a Lotus to a Palm Treo Pro. I wasn't aware I had to delete my email account on the Lotus, as a result I just did a hard-reset on it prior to returning it. Now I keep getting these texts sent to my Treo Pro every time I get an email, which is rather annoying.

I realize I could block the number, but I would rather not do that and prefer to do it the "correct" way. As I don't have access to the Lotus anymore (it's been shipped back to sprint), I am not able to do the proper steps of adding my email account to the Sprint Mobile Email App and then delete my account.

Any ideas (besides simply blocking the number)?

you should be able to still do the process on your new phone - download, set up, properly delete and you should be good to go :)

My new phone (Treo Pro) isn't compatible with Sprint Mobile Email.

Which phones can I use with Sprint Mobile Email? (http://support.sprint.com/doc/sp11473.xml?docid=9970&navtypeid=6&pagetypeid=7&prevPageIndex=8&lid=y)

Today, on my Palm Centro, I received the 9114 text at around 8am and then again around 10amish, then my phone completely powered down (although was recently charged) and now all my information is gone. Sprint CSRs and techs are clueless and said they had never heard of the 9114 text. I do have a backup but can't get it to recover. Its a bit weird. Equipment failure? Any thoughts out there are appreciated. Thanks

If you were using the "sprint mobile" email pushing software, this is most likely the reason for the text to be coming through to your phone. If you are able to get the phone going again, and set up your email again, it should stop. If not, and you dont want to use the software another option is to go on sprint's web page and do a "block" to make it stop. My personal opinion is that palms are good phones, but the Centro was not one of their better models. I have had the 755p, and the Pro (850). 755 was palm software, and pro is windows 6.1. Both of these phones are good phones! Maybe you can "insurance claim" yourself an upgrade. That is how I ended up with the 850. My 755 stopped turning on. It would act like it was turning on, but then it would say "phone off" after powering up. Just a thought. Hope this helps! I will be getting the "PRE" next saturday when it is released!

Thanks for the advice. After some back and forth with CSRs, I went into a store (with a repair shop) and found out that the 9114 short message text is a virus and it was the virus that hard-rest my phone and deleted all my data. The tech cleared tech cleared the virus and helped me sync up the backup (although an a old back-up, it's better than nothing). He said the same thing had happened to him and the only way to stop receiving potentially harmful short message texts is to block them. The downside of blocking short message texts, you will be unable to Tweet. Thanks all!!

You CAN block specific short code SMS from your phone by doing it yourself at the Sprint.com site without having to block them all. (I have several blocked, myself.)

I have been getting ten a day. I have talked to the Sprint store tech people and they don't have asolution. They said to reply with unsubscribe and I get a message back saying that this address does not accept text messages.

I am still looking for an answer

If you are signed into any of the instant messenger programs and have the function to alert you when users come online or go offline (notifications), you will get these text messages. I've found that if I log onto the yahoo messenger, AIM and windows live messenger and change my "alerts" options to not notify me when users come online, then the messages have stopped.

Ok I have never gotten these text before on my Lotus and I did use sprint mobile
e-mail. I had G mail Yahoo and 2 of my Insight e-mails set up. I still have my Lotus but recently got the Touch Pro 2. The day I got it I started getting these text from 9114 and had no idea what it was. I was still getting them every so often and I even tried to replyy with unsubscribe. Then I got one today and started to google what it was and it led me here. I went to my Sprint account and blocked just that number only so am I good? Someone earlier said it's a Yahoo thing. S hould I aslo delete my Yahoo account from my Lotus? Or am I good just with having it blocked and will my new phone still show me I have an e-mail from Yahoo? I have outlook set up check for new messages every 5 minutes on this phone. But in the past 2 weeks since I've had the phone I've gotten that message about 10 times usually just once in a day.. I am not usually signed into an instant messenger program.

its not a yahoo thing really, its a sprint mobile email thing - it usually started when someone was using sprint mobile email, deleted it, but didnt delete the email accounts 1st, and so it was still trying to deliver mail

Since you can get into your lotus, remove the email accounts from there, then reset them up on your new phone, the text should stop

Well I blocked the text already and I do have the e-mail accounts set up on my new phone already but I do need to delete them off the Lotus in case I give it away. Thanks!
