View Full Version : What's the easiest way to do custom ringtones?

I'm currently using the Motorola RAZR. The phone is great for pretty much everything, except I'd like to use clips out of my own MP3s as ringtones.

I know it's possible to do this through the Focus tool on this site, and that's what I've been doing -- but I lose a lot of quality and some of the clips sound so bad it's not worth trying to use them on the phone.

Is there an easy way to do this with this phone?

Download WavePad.
You open a file you want as your ringtone and then highlight the parts you do not want and hit delete. Then hit Save File As and make sure you select "Mpeg layer 3[MP3]". And you will then have to select the "Bitrate"..the higher the quality, but the higher the more space it takes up on your phone. Then go to the uploader and look for the one you created.

Better yet, here's the link...

You can also do it through iTunes. First play through one of your mp3's and note the start time and the end time of the clip you want for your ring tone. Then you can right click the song and select "get info" and then you put in the start and end time that you selected. This will shorten the song to the clip that you want. Once you have the part that you want selected you can go to "Advanced" at the top of the screen and there is an option to convert to AAC. Once the file is converted you can either transfer it to your phone through bluetooth or through a USB cable. Hope this helps.

chaltry -- thanks to you, I can get pretty much my entire clip-worthy library onto the RAZR, which is locked down so that I can't upload through USB. (I should have mentioned that I was using a RAZR earlier.)

Enjoy the SU$
