Its a great free photo editing program, but as nooby as I am with media editing softwares, editing pics can be a pain in the rear. Everytime I try to resize something, to lets say 320x186 or 320x230, the picture always gets distorted. How can I just reduce the size of the picture without having the distortion? :1zhelp:

All I do is open an image in paint. Once its open, just trim it to get roughly the right shape. Then save it on the desktop and use the focus uploader to resize it for you. It has worked for me pretty well so far.

thats to be expected when you resize a large image down to a small size your shrinking it down to 1/4 or smaller its orig size although i never had such issues when using ifranview
thanks for reminding me i need to collect that and install it on my new comp

I just open an image in paint and scale it down to 50% (both ways, of course) or whatever number suits me....very n00bish, as I do have Photoshop, but...meh.
Irfanview? To be honest, the only thing I use that for is to convert images into .jpegs.

i use it as my primary image viewer just because its quicker, and more powerful then the built in windows xp (or vista) image viewer plus when it comes to going through the 100s of images that end up being amassed on my phones it works rather quickly after a few settings are enabled (such as move to next file after delete)
attached is an example (using ifranview) i resized a 1600x1200 image down to 320x240
the trick is #1 maintain the aspect ratio, if not then the pic will come out looking like crud

But when I maintain the aspect ratio, the picture will not come out the precise pixel x pixel as need. Which in this case is 320x240 for my Q.

then either A) crop the image to be one that can be shrunk, or B) live with it ... its the only options
