View Full Version : Cancelling due fair coverage question?

I have a question?

It seems that everytime i'm on my cell at home I get a drop call, I have taken my home to sprint store and they tell me nothing is wrong with it. I browse the sprint site today and noticed that they have a somewhat detailed map of there coverage area's and how good reception there is. Well I have fair reception. Can I cancel my line's(3 total), that I have had 4+years, and not get a EFT charge due to only having fair reception? I know they credit my calls if I call and go thru the IVR, but that is so annoying. I was planning on getting a new phone, because I thought it was a phone issue.

So what would you suggest?

Thats in advance!

no you can't cancel. I've tried. I was even told to try different phones. But I"m not going to spend money on phones. My sister has a M1 and my other sister has a Katana. I've tried the Razor and a Samsung. None gave me any better reception. Sprint told me that I have some type of use of my phone in my area and because of this I can't cancel.

you have 3 lines, do the other 2 lines do the same thing at home?? That would be a definate way to tell if it is a phone issue. How old is the phone? I seriously doubt you could get out of the ETF.

No. Sprint used to allow customers to cancel service without ETF's if you moved to an area that didn't have Sprint service, but not anymore. I doubt they'd even entertain your request, if you still live at the same address as you did when you originally activated service.

I have only "fair" coverage at my house and have not been dropping calls after "graduating" to powervision phones.

I'd consider getting a new phone that rates highly on reception and try that. It's alot cheaper than 3 ETF fee's and sprint may assist you with some money off if your not eligible for a 2 year rebate.

I thought there was a roaming rate change this month that would allow anyone to cancel their service due to the change of TOS, but I'm not sure if it was this month or last. I'm sure someone on here does.

Read the thread in the "tips and tricks" area and you will see why that loophole has been closed.

I have a powervision phone and I still drop calls. I got the 8400 thinking the external antenna would help but it doesn't. :indiff:

Are you dropping calls "in building" or outdoors? If its "in building" then I can think of any number of reasons why you would drop calls indoors and not outside.

If you drop calls all different places though, maybe the phone is not working properly.

My area shows up as a "fair" to "poor" SPCS coverage area. As I moved from a n200 to n400, vga1000, a740, a900 my reception got better and better with each newer phone. Now with 3 different phones being used on our account in my coverage area (treo 700wx, 700p and samsung a920) I no longer have dropped call issues.

Some environmental things that can affect the penetration and transmission of cellular / pcs signals include:

old lead paint (yes im serious)

flourescent light bulbs (including the ones that have started replacing regular bulbs)

trees (espically ones that are very heavily covered in leaves, more huge woods than a single tree)

building materials - the biggest problem of all of them. Depending on what the building was built out of, it can severely decrease cellular (and more so the 1.9Ghz PCS band that sprint uses) signals. Go into any big box store like a walmart and find your phone signals starting to decrease and eventually goto no service.

The above list is from my personal experience and research done by me. Areas with "good" signal" will likely still have calls penetrate through any of these materials, but a weaker signal will just be rendered useless.

Now, if sprint claims to have fair coverage in your area and you find that you have poor outdoor service, you should call in and ask that a trouble ticket be opened to see if the tower is somehow malfunctioning.

Either way, good luck finding a fair solution to your coverage issues!

sprints retentions dept does waive the etf fee if you move to a place with absolutely no signal coverage. they use to do it last year and then they stopped but now sprint starting waiving etf for that reason. but now they ask you for a utility bill or something else that proves you live there. but if it just inside ur house then no, sprint never guarantees services inside buildings, they dont even open up tickets for that. the reasons for that have already been mention above very accurately. none of those reason are sprint's fault and thats why they dont waive etf for that. :icon_smil

Correct, however I think if you are moving out of country you have to provide an address of where you are moving (I don't think a utility bill etc is required because of the fact that you are moving out of country etc).

I currently have a Treo 650. I previosly had a Sanyo VM4500. I had issue's but not as bad as my Treo. I get dropped call calling *2. The other phones that we have are a Katana and an other VM4500. Both have abit better reception but still get occasional dropped calls. The calls drop inside my house, outside my house and driving around my hometown area. I am just getting REALLY annoyed with it. Once I get to some major towns reception seems to get somewhat better but alot less dropped calls.

I have taken my phone 3 times to sprint store. First time they replaced with a refurbished phone because of reception and it stopped connecting to my bluetooth the second 2 times they did software updates.

The issue is that I'm not due for an upgrade until September. I dont want to spend full price for a phone, thinking it will improve my reception, and actually not change. Also if I get a Treo 700 or 755, they will make me upgrade to powervision, where currently I have FREE vision on all my phones.

Dont know what to do!!

BTW before Sprint I had ATT, and from what I can remember from living in the same place i currently live. I never had dropped call issues at home. I switched over once I found out cingular was buying them out. I dont think I would have switched otherwise.

Sounds like you have coverage and device issues. I would say that since you live in a populated area, it would be warranted to let sprint know in SEVERAL ways that your coverage lacks. make a phone call, write a few emails. Don' t angry, just "thought you guys should know"
And do you have free roaming? It will like be 800mgz and it will likely penetrate you're home to be more effectively used. just change your phone to "roam only" when you're at home

Actually I have a walmart about 7 minutes down the road. I have excellent service there. I drop calls in my house which I'm not really worried about but I also drop calls outside. Where I live there is A LOT of tree's. I live in the sticks. I was promised that they were gonna put some towers in my area when I first got Sprint, 1 year ago and they haven't done anything yet.

Yeah I was told if I faxed them my driver's license with my current address and some other bill with my name and address on it that Sprint would look into canceling the ETF. But for that slight chance that I would have to pay the ETF I'd rather keep the service. I can still use my phone when I'm in the city.
