Thanks for the pix. Both look quite nice! Certainly better than the 1st Katana imo. I'd go for the DLX for the added features. The internal display sure doesn't look close m610 size though, at least not in that one pic. :irked:

Yes, according to this, the DXL will have the same features as the 8400.

New Sanyo Katana II, Katana DLX Details E-mail
Sprint
Written by Humberto Saabedra
Friday, 25 May 2007
The first draft images of the Sanyo SCP-6650 have appeared through the FCC.

We previously covered the first details of the phone as the successor to the Katana, which will be released under the Katana II. The SCP-6650 will be a modest improvement to the current Katana, adding an improved camera and multimedia support.

However, the SCP-6650 will not contain EV-DO. That will be reserved for the Katana DLX; the SCP-8500. The existing Sanyo 8xxx line will receive the Katana DLX, building on the SCP-8400 with the thin Katana design, and including the 8400's full feature set, including EV-DO.

Hmm.. did Sanyo hire some designers finally? :) Even though it's still kinda generic and Sanyoish.

Looks good.

But I see they still can't create a center earpiece. It always seems to be offset to the left side of the phone.

If the Katana DXL is like the 8400 then it should have the AAC ringers. If feature wise it;s exactally the same as the 8400 then I may not get it. If it has better bluetooth and the same amount of space for all the AAC ringerrs or more then I would consider it. I want to see the Sanyo phone like the sidekick too the pro 900 is there pics of it anywhere? But I think the Katana DXL looks nice. Rose

Me too cause I haven't had the 8400 that long they let me slide on my upgrade a couple months early so I don't know when I am due again. I kind of want the Katana DLX but I love the sidekick phone too someone at work has one from T-Mobile. I may just have to wait though till I am due for the upgrade. See post # 36 and post #45. Silver, pink and champagne.

no black? that is stupid! i was going to get it but not unless it comes in black. maybe ill get the silver (original sprint colors)....wait i remeber complaining that the 8400 didnt come in silver! yes ill get the 8500 with an upgrade i get in sept!

I know my 8300 was silver and I wanted the 8400 in silver so I chose blue which is what my 8200 was but this is a different blue.. So now I'll probably have to get the 8500 as well. I may get silver or I may do the pink depending on what it looks like.. I can't wait till the DLX comes out.. I need to see when my upgrade is up.. And I don't even need a new phone my 8400 is fine LOL!! I"ll have to sell it. I am assuming my sd card will work on the DLX and that it will have a slot for one and a media player too right? I hope so!! Rose

Sanyo Katana DLX Spotted On FCC Site

Date Posted: Yesterday, 8:15 PM
Source: FCC

Documents seen on the FCC site today revealed the Sanyo SCP-8500, or Katana DLX, another addition to Sanyo's line of skinny phones for Sprint. This clamshell will offer EV-DO data, Bluetooth and a microSD card slot. Based on the drawings, it also has dual displays and a camera. It loses 3.8mm in height and 1.4mm in width, but gains 3.3mm in thickness when compared to the original Katana. No further details are revealed in the documents at this time.

NotoriousNeo
06-22-2007, 04:53 PM

info about the DLX...

It's 240 x 320, but only 1.19" wide (3.02cm), so I'm thinking it'll have some of the smallest type ever. From the looks of the photos, the width is not a typo.

Otherwise, this phone sounds like a dream. A little pocket heavy for a slim, so I hope it gets the Sanyo-snap. I'm sure it'll feel solid, regardless. Hmm...

If I could pipe in here a bit....

I've played with both phones multiple times and I'm sorry to say here in Sanyo forum that the Fusic 2 or Muziq is really twice the phone as the 8500. It looks better in every way, is lighter, has more functions and will be cheaper when released. As far as I'm concerned it's not even close.

I'm not meaning to bash here but the Muziq is just better.

Well, some sites with m610 specs have it listed as a 2.3, which would make sense since it looks taller and wider than my 2.2" Sanyo 9000. Not sure about the 8400. Unless this DLX has some awesome new funtions/features I'm not yet privy to, I don't see it as a true upgrade at all, especially going from the beautiful large m610 screen way down to the DLX size. Thought this DLX would give me a reason to go back to Sanyo, still not really seeing it.

I presume it's because they can't sell them as cheap as LG or Samsung to Sprint. They're a smaller player that has a tougher time getting economies of scale.

For example, the KatanaII is going to be more expensive than the M510 next week... Are you kidding me? No, it's true.

Sanyo makes good phones but they're overpriced and not much to look at.

07-12-2007, 08:31 AM
Depends, I really like the look of that Pink DLX! I don't know what the Pink Muziq will look like but a Sprint store rep and I decided witha name of Extreme Pink it will probably be a hot color of pink. I will really like to see them both to decide. However if the Pink Muziq doesn't come out with the black I will probably get the DLX. I know I know that is stupid. I just want a Pink phone. Have always wanted one and I don't think I will be satisfied till I get one. I do have the Pink M510 but it keeps power cycling on me so I am exchanging it for one of these.

I got the Katana last year when it came out because I wanted a pink phone sooooo badly too. I loved the look of it and the feel of it, but was disappointed because it didn't have EVDO and wasn't it multimedia phone like I was used to with the Samsung A900. Exchanged it for the Fusic and have stuck with it because it's a really good phone. I think I won't go wrong either way with either the DLX or the Muziq. I love the pictures that were on the sprint site for the DLX, I am just worried it will have the muffled sound that Sanyo's usually had a few years ago.

DLX and Muziq will not get released until Sunday even if the stores do have them. Just called a few stores in my area and only one store has the DLX's in stock but won't sell them. They wouldn't say what colors either phones were in either.

One thing you are going to learn is dont alway believe what a rep tells you, most of them dont know anything.

One thing is correct though Sprint Corporate stores are always last in getting new phones, indirect Sprint dealers are able to get them the next day after showing up in the warehouse

We also got the Muziq in today, will post the pic up for this on the SU LG Forum

Ok, the local store here let me see and play with the DLX. They only got it in silver and I called to ask when the pink would be released and they said they did not even have the pink one in their system but it was just posted above that they had them in their store. HMMMM... The DLX is really nice. It looks and feels better then the two previous Katanas. Love the way they did the hinge on it. Screen is a little small well atleast to the HUGE size of the screen on the Muziq. Outside speaker is just like the one on the first Katana. However the features are a lot better. Does support animated wallpaper though atleast it had one as the wallpaper when I looked at it.

Hi Penny,

was it this pink one they claimed they didnt have in their system yet ?

http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/8373/178288086277011jk3.jpg

I have been telling people over and over for over a year now to stop believing everything a Sprint Rep says, they are pulling what we call BS cards to their customers.

The reason why they dont have it is cause their logistics department sucks, bad management who are lazy. They only have a silver into see how sales will go for it, then as they start to have a greator demand then they will get the pink. They are scared to order something that they wont sell in which they get penalized by Corp for.

You need to use the Sprint Mobile Email software for Emails. Its a free application you can download that works just like OutLook, you can configure POP and IMAP accounts. If you have AOL, AIM, Yahoo (Paid Version), Sprint, or MSN Email accounts auto config and send alerts to your phone wherever you get new mail.

Also if you insist on on doing it the way you are doing it now, try putting the memory card in and see what happens if you havent already done it. I am just guessing here though on this part.

Actually no buddy. At least not by default and I have not seen a place to turn it on. There is a spot for a strap, it's on the bottom though. It is also a fair amount thicker than the m610, but you are pitting it against the thinnest flip out there, so what do you expect. Personally, I found the m610 too thin, the DLX is just right IMO. Wow blue keys animated wallpapers I want one now. I want the pink one. I am calling my sprint store again to see if I can get through. Maybe they will have them on the 15th.. I am sure they won't have pink though. I have never paid full price for a phone though. I can probably get 75 off maybe and sell my phone for 50 or 75 so that may not be bad. I can't wait to see one in person. I can't believe there is no buddy I like the little buddies.. So like now my main background is a picture of my cat meaning I can have be an animated gif on this new phone right? That will be so cool. My friend has the 1st Katana in pink and it lights up blue but not real bright. But I am tried of green. Thanks for all the info!! Rose

Do you have a link for that download? Also, I don't understand why going to messaging--->email would cause the phone to crash.

yeah i would like the link to that also, much apreciated.

It will use, I assume, the same drivers for the SCP-8400. TO get the drivers you will have to download the Sprint Connection Manager. During the installation proccess it will ask the Make and perhaps model of your phone you want to install the drivers for.

For XP click HERE (http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/Sprint_PCS_CM_v039.msi)

For Vista click HERE (http://www4.sprint.com/pcsbusiness/downloads/Sprint_PCS_CM_v039.msi)

I know it sucks that you have to install the SCM to get the drivers for the Sanyo, and no you dont have to use the SCM to do what you want to do with the Sanyo phone, you can run that independantly without having to launch the SCM.

wait are you telling me I can set up my webmail email to send to my phone as texts? where have I been? Can you help me with directions how to do it?

You will only get automatic alerts to your phone if you have an AOL, Yahoo (purchased), MSN, AIM, or Sprint email accounts.

If you have earthlink, gmail, bellsouth, comcast, etc you will have to manually configure them with the same settings you would use in Outlook. In your WEBMAIL accounts you will have to setup forwarding to your sprint email address to get an alert that you have email, then use the Sprint Mobile Email application to retrieve your mail which is done autmatically when the application is launched. This is the work around to get auto like alerts. If you are unable to send mail, then your ESP is blocking it cause your ISP is not with them. The work around for this is to set your Outgoing mail server to: smtp.sprintpcs.com, Your User Name: Your sprint email address without the "@sprintpcs.com" and Your Password: your vision password

So what is the email choice in messaging for? Do I need to DL drivers to make that not freeze or something? If so, that is a bit ridiculous.

:thought: Was wondering if you can use a usb cable to transfer data? The usb cables for the other Sanyo products would be great. I don't like to keep taking out the memory cards to get stuff off and on the phone.

night pics? You mean with the 8500's camera? I will this evening.

Sorry, I wrote that very late at night, although night pics with the 8500's camera would be cool too... I meant like what the keypad looks like at night (unless it's identical to the 6600's) and whether or not it has a flash on the camera. Also can the flash be used as a flashlight like on the 8300?

**EDIT** Oh i forgot. No flash. Unless they hide it really well.

 Okay I won't wait for the lx 260 if the speaker on this is as good as the previous models.....I am beginning to have a new relationship with a new friend....lol

Hey can you say if the ringers are loud or if you compare it to another sanyo?:tu:

flyingdutchman

Stock ringers between the 8500 and the 9000 are about the same, the 9000 being slightly louder. Until you put the 8500 on a table, then it is louder because the speaker bounces the sound off the table. I have only one music ringer on the 8500 and none on the 9000, but the one on the 8500 is not as loud as stock ringers.

Thanks! I was wondering because I have had 8100-8400 and the 8400 seemed a little lacking compared to the others. I know for a fact that the 8300 would wake me up out of a dead sleep. (as well as everyone else in the house) So I was kinda hoping....I know that it doesn't have a flash, but could taking the pics on the low light or night light setting would help? I miss the flashlight feature that they use to have and the buddy, my kids are not going to like this phone but it sounds like a winner

I just bought my wife the Katana DLX a few days ago and as usual, the store staff could not transfer the 250 plus names and contact information from her old phone, a Sanyo MM-5600. It seems that everytime we change out phones, none of the Sprint stores are able to transfer this information. We have tried various Sprint stores and they all claim that for some lame excuse, they are unable to transfer the address/contact book. Does anyone have any suggestions before she starts manually re-entering all the contacts? Sorry, I'm a newbie here and not very good a this stuff. Thanks.

That is complete BS. Take it to another store, and find a competent sales person. If it can't be done, call Customer Service voice a complaint. That is unacceptable.

well before filing a complaint, maybe their PC was down, maybe their machine was broken, etc.

I know that if they use a cellbrite machine the older model of hardware is not compatible with the 8500. A store would have to upgrade to the newer model for probably close to a grand. I know it's the cost of doing business, but i'm just saying. Of course they could be using futuredial or something different. just my two pennies

(of course, i have an 8400 laying around that i can transfer with the old cellbrite and then use bluetooth to transfer to the 8500, so my customers are happy ;) )

Wondering if you have your contacts saved to outlook because you could transfer the .vcf file to the memory card and use it that way:headbang2
