Recieved the specs sheet in yesterday, took some pictures will upload for you guys to see tonight, but if it goes as does in the past this usually means 2-3 three weeks til the phone launches officially. It's not power vision but we'll just have to wait for the DLX i guess. I'll post it up later tonight.

If it's not PV it needs to be priced a lot lower than the other Katana.
For a phone with no PV and no video to be priced at $50 after rebates is foolish IMO. there are too many PV phone for the same price and WAY more features.
no PV?
so what's the difference?

Just doesn't seem logical that still be making non-PV phones, but then again they seem to not do logical things often

Based on what he put, yes.... whether they are the same series, there's no telling. I'm holding out hope that there are several new series coming.. and Sanyo will release at MINIMUM, four new mid to high range devices this year... oh, and then watch monkey's fly.. out of my .... well... you get the picture.

I'd like to see the Katana DLX offered as a quad band with GSM/edge support for outside the U.S. That would be a killer phone.

from what im reading on phonenews, it looks like the katana 2 is really a sanyo 8300 since it has multimedia and the katana DLX is an 8400
We previously covered the first details of the phone as the successor to the Katana, which will be released under the Katana II. The SCP-6650 will be a modest improvement to the current Katana, adding an improved camera and multimedia support.
However, the SCP-6650 will not contain EV-DO. That will be reserved for the Katana DLX; the SCP-8500. The existing Sanyo 8xxx line will receive the Katana DLX, building on the SCP-8400 with the thin Katana design, and including the 8400's full feature set, including EV-DO. phonenews.com

that's good news.
like i said in my survey yesterday i took, we need cooler looking phones. slider/full qwerty phones. and make them attractive to teenagers, too.

Would you happen to know what is going to differentiate the DLX from the 8400, aside from the design?
Hopefully the screen will look something like the A900/M610.

NO memoery card slot and no MP camera, makes this phone a worthless POJ that the orig Katana was.
It better accept MP3 ringtones this time around.

well, the katanas are in the radioshack system as 329 outright, but since we charge 50 more than sprint for outrights, sprint store would have em for 279 outright. thats y i posted 279, even though our system shows 329 unactivated.

How is that a rip off? The Katana (one) has been that price since it came out... only with in the last 6-8 months has it really had a mail-in rebate... and I know that PLENTY of them sold at that price at my store.
Since I doubt anyone has physically held the phone, I don't know how we could answer that question... I'm sure it will be a little more durable (hinge-wise) compared to its predecessor... but, no one will really know until we get one in hand.

I work part-time at a fairly high-volume RadioShack (we have the MotoQ, Treo 755p, both USB RevA Aircards and the M300 in stock and ready to sell). Today my sprint rep came in to do whatever they do, and she had the Katana II with her. She let me play with it, but would not allow me to take pictures of it - there was a serial number engraved on it, and if a picture of it showed up on a web forum, she'd probably be in trouble. So I respected her request and just played with it.
The Pro700 is NOT the Katana II. As others have stated, she told me that the Katana II is basically just a Katana, but smaller and rounder. I actually liked the styling - it kindof reminded me of the RAZR2 in style. Not boxy sharp edges like the Katana - more rounded, svelte, attractive. Keypad, usually a weakpoint for most Sanyos, was very impressive. I was impressed overall witht he aesthetics, even though it is only an incremental upgrade over the Katana I.
UI is the same as the Katana - still a vga cam, etc etc. This looks like it is just meant to update styling while filling the same segment of sprint's handset lineup as the Katana. Not a phone I'd buy, but a phone I can see selling.

The 6800 or Mogul will not be out anytime soon rumored to be Oct. but still has a TBD release date. The reason was they wanted to launch it with windows mobile 6 and with EVDO REVA. The pro series from sanyo is rumored but I have not seen anything on a release date, those pics have been floating around for a while and not even a leak from corp. The katana II and the Pro series are completely diff as Sanyo are tying to Establish a Signature Line such as Ultra Series from Samsung. Their is a complete thread for them. But the Kanana 2 dosnt resemble any of the pro series either DLX or Reg.

It should have a 1.3 MP camera since it is rumored to be a squashed 8400. Of course its all speculation at this point.

If the DLX is as good as the 8400 I would consider one. I wanted a pink katana except for the fact it didn't have multimedia I loved my AAC ringers on my 8300 so I went with the 8400. My friend who doesn't do anythign but use the phone for a phone got the pink katana. But I want a slim phone and the DLX sounds nice. If it's the same as the 8400 except for being thin then I may not get it. I want the better bluetooth 2.0 and If it's a katana then I bet it has blue keys which I have never had before with any Sanyo phone. I think my friends pink katana has blue keys not the green. I haven't been here in a long time and I don't even need a new phone my 8400 is fine but the DLX sounds so nice and the Sanyo sidekick phone if there really is one sounds great too.
IS THE KATANA II AMPS??????? I need to add a third phone on my family plan with analog ability. I will get the current Katana or the new Sanyo 3200 or the new Katana II. The 3200's screen is too small for me, but if the Katana II has a good speaker compared to the crappy speaker on the original Katana I may wait for the Katana II if it will be available in the next week or so.
Has anyone noticed that the Katana II is made in Malaysia, not Japan!!!
https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/forms/blobs/retrieve.cgi?attachment_id=796440&native_or_pdf=pdf
Is not the original Katana made in Japan??? My understanding is that the new Katana II sets the direction Sanyo will be going with all their new phones for quite a while. I try not to purchase first run technology as it is inherently unreliable. If the original Katana is made in Japan, I'll just get the original Katana.
I called a Sprint store and they informed me that the original Katana is also made in Malaysia, so I'll try to wait for the new Katana II, as long as it is released in the next week or so!!!

In another thread here in the Sanyo Katana threads a store rep said yesterday that the Sanyo rep said July for the Katana II and October for the DLX.
