you need to put your music in the media folder in order to have it appear and play in the media player. also, only the media player will minimize and allow you to surf vision at the same time you're listening to music.
if you cannot put anything in the media folder then try resetting your phone or take it to a sprint store to have it looked at.
thanks- I have one more question-- when I transfer videos or pictures from my computer to the media folder on the phone - they show up but I cannot play them - the only videos and pictures I can play are the ones I took from my phone. do i need to convert them first to 3g2 files first? if so - then how do I convert them. your help is appreatiated. there are no instructions for doing this.

I too hope that someone patient can possibly give a step-by-step on putting your own pc files onto the M1--have enough there and am not interested in spending with the Sprint music store. But, thought I had it, but then I go to play something from the file manager and it starts to for a split second and then says no-go. Seems this is something easy I may have seen in another thread but am not getting.
Thanks to anyone who can just spell it out for the sometimes slow learners like myself. :)

1 connect the phone with the usb cable
2 select MASS STORAGE on the phone (if the menu doesn't appear, unplug and plug the usb cable in again.)
3 on the pc, open my computer select the sayno removable disk drive.
4 open the MEDIA folder on the sanyo drive
5 if you use itunes, open itunes and drag any song to the media folder and the computer will copy it to the phone. if you don't use itunes, same thing except open the folder where your music files are located and drag and drop then in the media folder on the sanyo drive.
6 unplug phone when finished
7 open the media player on phone and select media listing
now you should see your music.

Mmmkay..well this is what I thought I did before, and well, is there something about Windows Media Player files maybe? I'm seeing some of the music I put on but it won't play--has cartoon-like question mark next to it. Ok and so I also put mostly single songs, and see them from the "file manager" option in tools, but they have the question mark next to 'em, and then I went ahead and tryed putting an album over there, and it's listed, and says 'no content' when ya go to look in the named folder, but when I deleted that folder, it counted thru deleting as many songs as were on that particular album. So hmm, not sure why I'm not gettin' this..maybe it's a simple little thing? I had a Fusic not too long ago , and aside from the memory card I had not holding much, I didn't have any probs actually placing or playing files..??doinggg
Thanks much for your help in the first, tho'!

I had same problem until i got rid of all folders - you must get rid of all folders and albums in phone first. and drop in each song in the media folder- but make sure the media folder is opened up or they will go into a folder. but first try to find out what program rececorded the original song by right clicking the song in windows media player and clicking properties. it must be in mp3 format its probably in wma format, which wont play (only question mark will show up). they must be converted. you can convert by going to xilisoft.com and downloading the free converter. free converter can only download 5 minutes of any music or video file -- the full version you have to pay for and can download 2-3 hours at a time-- most songs are less than 5 minutes long so it should work. Another way to get songs in mp3 format is to download them off of CAbos.com
I forgot to tell you - dont put any songs (on your computer) in windows media-- put them in a seperate folder on your computer--
if you download xilisoft software to your computer you can also download video file to your media folder on your phone (must be in 3g2 format first though or it will show up on your phone as a ?) xilisoft can convert video files to this format too but if you get the free version it will only convert 5 minutes worth of video and then it will stop converting unless you buy the full version
remember -get rid of all folders including playlist on you phone first or it wont work. drop each file seperately into the OPENED media folder first --dont just drag the song or video (in 3g2 format) over to the unopened media folder-- if you do that it will create another folder or playlist and the file wont play
I had my phone for 5 months until I figured out how to any of this stuff

Alright :) I'll definitely try it. Thanks very much for your input. Heh, I just kept trying the same thing over before and finally thought hmm, has to be something about the type of file. Thanks! :)
