MLB teams offer wireless ticketing

Major League Baseball is teaming with Scotland’s Mobiqa to turn mobile phones into tickets to the ballpark.

The companies unveiled Tickets@Phone, an application that allows fans to buy a ticket online and have it delivered to a phone in the form of a readable barcode. Phones are then scanned at the gate, where a paper ticket is printed for the spectator.

The offering is being used by the Oakland A’s, Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals. While the service apparently has its detractors—one blogger who tried it said the “product is not fully baked”—the companies claim consumer response has been “phenomenal.”

“It is great that baseball fans can now take advantage of a more convenient means of ticketing when attending games,” said Mobiqa CEO Larry Witherspoon. “This is an exciting and easy-to-use service which has been used with great success in the U.K. and Europe, and it is fantastic to be able to offer it in the U.S.”

I saw this about a week ago. I think it's a pretty neat idea myself. I'd use it.
