The Sanyo 2300 does not typically allow SMS to be sent while roaming (receives fine). Here in the Atlanta area if I force the phone to roam (on 800 MHz VZW), the phone firmware will say service not available if you try to send an sms.

However, I was in the Montreal airport the other day (Bell Mobility, SID 16420) and I got a message that I replied to with no problems. It occurred to me the following day - hey wait a miute - I was roaming and was able to send an SMS - what's up with that? THe only thing I can assume is that I was roaming on 1900 MHz instead of 800. Perhaps for some stupid reason the phone allows SMS when roaming if you are on 1900, but not on 800? I don't think it anyting to do with the PRL, because a 2400 and a Katana with the same PRL as the 2300 send SMS when roaming on VZW 800 with no problems.

maybe it depends on if you was in digital or analog. I can text on digital roam all day but not on analog. (this is based on not knowing anything about your phone but only from my experiences.)

No, it's not a digital vs analog thing. The 2300 will not, in my confirmed experience, allow you to send SMS while roaming digital on 800, at least not on VZW or Alltel when I have tried it.
