PAM dont show on my 8400

Alright i just got this phone recently and i have been wanting to use it as a modem. I installed the connection manager software and drivers on my pc. I opened up the connection manager software and then pluged in my phone with the usb cable and went to tools-usb connection on my phone. The modem option doesnt show like it should but occasionaly it does when i reconnect the usb cable. When i click it a message pops up saying something like-the pc uses the phone as a modem or somethin like that and then it backs out to the phones main screen. When i go back to the usb connection in tools it dont show again only pictbridge and the other thing to transfer stuff to my sd card show. The usb cable and the port works fine as i transfer music to my sd card this way. Im sure this has been asked before but i couldnt find an answer and im also searching from my phone so its a little frustrating. Well any help will be appreciated, thanks.

This is how mine works. I plug in the phone, select the use phone as modem selection. It will go bact to the main screen but it is actualy connected. I close the phone after I select the modem as phone option. I then open the sprint connection mannager. after a few seconds it connects and shows me the welcome screen. You may need to reset the phone if this does not work as I had the same problem and a factory reset was the only thing that worked.

I am getting on average about 450-550 kbps downloads when tested. I have tried to play online FPS games but the ping using the phone is very bad something like 300-1000 ms. But it does an ok job of general web surfing and downloading needed files. I live where using the pam on the phone is my only choice besides satelite.

does the reset delete ringers and other files?
