I recently was roaming out of the Sprint coverage area and while my phone mentioned "digital roam" and "ondemand" worked, a attempt to get to the WEB (on the phone) brought up a "data roaming rates apply" warning screen on my phone. (I aborted the attempt)
Back home I surfed the ever more confusing Sprint website and from what I gather, there is only options for 'international data roaming' and no domestic data roaming options are needed as: Voicemail, TM, WEB, DUN, (exc.) ALL should work and are included with "free domestic roaming". (I have a Sprint "Power" plan with free roaming within the USA and unlimited PAM/DUN)
So the $64 question is: Can I use DUN (for example) while roaming without incurring extra charges?

After I got the data roaming message, I talked to a pretty knowledgeable rep at a Sprint store/service center. He said that the data networks are separate from the voice networks, and that there are no roaming charges for voice, but there are for data. I also aborted the operations when I got the message, so I didn't prove that he was right or find out what the roaming rate is.

I have roamed a few times using data and haven't been charged. I'm also on the sero plan so I don't know if that's why or not.

Last I heard there were no additional charges for data roaming.

Domestic data roaming is free as long as you have a roaming-included plan

Thanks for the clarification...I am always hesitant to rack up chargers

Correct...You also have to have a Vision or PV package, but I am sure you got that covered.

Ok, humm....maybe the programing of my phone is incorrect then?
I'd think that if my voice roaming carried over to data, the phone would NOT warn me about extra charges... unless there is not a setting for it equal to my free voice roaming.

I don't have free roaming with my plan and I asked the CS rep by email about data roaming, along with what my rate would be on it. He confirmed I get free data roaming. So I think as long as you have a Vision or Power Vision plan, data roaming is included. I mean, how else would they charge for it? I've never seen any mention of data roaming charges on unlimited vision plans. It makes me wonder about international.

Sprint traditionally has blocked data roaming on the handset, , so it's a just a warning on the handset that they're 'could be'. I had to turn off the voice roaming warning on my a900, but there's no option to enable data roaming so I'm SOL.
(unless someone figures out howto hex edit the PRL's on the a920 and change roaming towers to home. anyone?)

it still does warn you even though you have it on your plan. It warns me too.

My OLD plan which did NOT have voice roaming, Sprint charged me $0.75MIN and I'd assume that much like the voice DATA would have equally or more outlandish costs.
Next time I'm out roaming, I'll have to try the 'data roam' and see what I get charged.
(heck, its all within the same State in USA, how much could Verizon really charge Sprint customers to roam on THEIR network?

I'm on SERO, and never once seen a roaming charge. 1200min, EVDO BT tetherable off my a920. Everythings perfect besides the firmware in the phone blocking data roaming. :)
Oh well, can't win 'em all.

I don't see how your not getting roaming charges on your non-data-roaming phone applies here.
My 8400 supports data roaming, abet with a warning before it engages.
