I posted this on the 3GInferno forums first, and now i'm posting here and later i'll post it on the Howard Forums.

I didn't know where to put this thread, but i figured here is good because it's kind of a review. This thread is about EVERYTHING about the Samsung a920 (Mine is Bell, but the Sprint version is pretty much exactly the same except a few minor differences)

First off; I have had the a920 since December and have since researched almost everything about it. I have been looking for any way to tweak it and make it the best it can be. Needless to say, I have found out that this isn't the best phone for hacking/tweaking, but I want to answer/clarify any questions on the a920 that most people have before/after buying the phone.

Anyone posting on this thread is asked to please use proper grammar and spelling so anyone looking at the thread can understand it perfectly (members OR guests). If you do not want to use proper grammar and whatnot, it doesn't matter, it's just a request.

Here's what I've learned so far (and this is probably going to be the extent of what I learn because the phone has been out since about January 2006, I might miss some stuff that I already knew, just ask questions and I'll answer them):

-a920 doesn't support video ringers

-a920 is a music phone that CAN play music from your own files, you do not have to buy songs from the Music Store for $2.50 apiece

-a920 plays .3gp videos (and i believe .3gp2 as well)

-plays .mp3, .m4a, .aac music files

-to put your own songs on the phone you can use QPST (reference: http://www.3ginferno.com/forums/the_one_the_final_samsung_a920_hacking_thread-t638.0.html ) or buy a card reader for about $20 and plug your card into card reader, and card reader into computer, then simply drag and drop. be sure to make a folder named "Media" in the card and put the songs/videos there.

-you cannot make it so that when you click the front mp3 buttons it goes to your media files instead of Music Store

-a920 doesn't support custom themes (as in themes that you download off internet)

-a920 can support up to a 1GB memory card, but the only way to format the card is to format it using Windows; if you format it using the phone it will show up as 128mb and full. but do not despair, just simply pop it into your computer and format it there and it will work fine again.

-a920 does not have changeable faceplates, other then clipons

-a920 only comes in 2 colours blue and chrome (chrome being limited edition version)

-a920 can have free phone as modem (but be sure to have unlimited browser on phone or else you will get REALLY high data charges) reference - http://www.3ginferno.com/forums/phone_as_a_modem-t103.0.html

-phone has the following Bluetooth profiles:
HS (Headset)
HF (Hands-Free)
DUN (Dial-up Network)
OPP (Object Push Profile)
OBEX (Object Exchange)
However it does not have FTP (File transfer Protocol) which allows you to send files such as songs, videos, or pictures to your computer, another phone or any other Bluetooth devices. You can exchange contacts though (OBEX.)

-a920 only works with a 1/8 inch headphones, the standard 1/4 inch headphone jack does not fit into it so you have to use the headphones that came with it or buy 1/8 inch ones

-a920 has a GPS that REALLY drains the battery, so if you don't use it, turn it off, as well as Bluetooth.

-uses EV-DO (fancy term for high-speed internet)

-no FM radio tuner

-to use the zoom on the 1.3mp camera you must lower the quality of the picture using settings

-you cannot record more then 30 seconds of video

Update- a920 does support themes, but the themes that you choose only affect your menu screen and you cannot get any new themes, just the ones that come with the phone (only 3 or 4 of them)

Any questions you have, please post them, and any things you would like to add, post as well. I hope this thread helps you in some way, and if it has it would be nice to see some feedback posted on the thread :)
