Just have to call sprint and request it. Had to do it with my other lines.

Hmm. I'm assuming it might be the same, but maybe not. Anyways, on my a900m you'd prepend *67 before you dial out for every number to hide the caller id.

That will hide everything. I believe he just wants to hide his name.

You can have this easily done by calling Sprint and asking them to change the Caller ID on the line that you want changed. My account have three lines and I have the Caller ID changed to whoever's using the line. That way when it's being used everyone don't think it's me.

or if you go to a sprint store, ask them to change the authorized user name to "unknown id"

when you call someone, it will just list the phone number

or just do a caller id block if you want it to be private.

Yeah, just call Sprint and ask to change the Caller ID names. I did it for all 3 lines on my account. My mom's number comes up with her name, my dad's with his, and mine with my name.

I agree that it's as simple as calling up Sprint and having them change the Caller ID name. However, I did have a bad experience with this.

I have 4 lines on my account (all SERO), and called to get the caller ID names changed to the users of the respective phones. All went well (so I thought) and 24-48 hours later all showed the names of the owners of the handsets.

A week or two passes, and I'm having trouble with PowerVision on my 9000. So I call up and when asked to verify the name/password/social on the account I gave them the same information I always do. As it turns out, they had not only changed the caller ID information, but also the accoung holders name!

After insisting that this was not the case, and after getting disconnected from SEVERAL reps, I had to call retentions because no one would talk to me. I calmly explained the situation to the rep, and they looked through the account notes. Not a single mention of the change of the account holders name. I ended up having to fax a copy of a previous bill to PROVE to them that the name had changed! After that it was pretty simple to get the name changed back, but still it was a MAJOR pain in the ^ss!!!!

So, just make sure when you call that they change ONLY the caller ID information and not the account holders name. Just have them read it all back to you when you make the change, and save yourself the headache I went through!!

After every phone call to CSR, I have them run through my whole account to make sure everything is the way it should be. You never know *** they do or don't do.

Thank you for asking this question my father wanted to know the same thing and asked me a few weeks ago. I just never got around to finding out. He said he got tired of his friends not answering because it was a female's name on the caller ID.

Call Customer service, say you want to swap authroized user to "wireless caller", make sure they have p2k. Will only take like 20 seconds each line. If your in ensemble even faster.

it doesn't even have to be wireless caller. They'll put whatever you want on it. Thanks to this thread I just did this 3 minutes ago. The rep was so nice and he even looked at my father's bill for me and showed that he was being charged for stuff that was already included in his plan and removed them for me without me asking. Sprint together with Nextel isn't so bad

Thanks for the good ideas, instructions and tools to complete this over due task.

I have a voice disability, use text primarly. But the use of the persons id will work for me. :deal:

Call CS, email eCare, etc. Each line on my account has the caller ID list the user's name as opposed to the account holder.

Can you choose what to change your display name to?

Freak4Dell
07-27-2007, 09:23 PM
Yeah, you can. You just have to call in and tell them. It takes about 72 hours to fully go into effect. Of course, with some reps, they will end up changing your account name or something stupid like that.

So if I wanted to change my display name to Santa Claus  , they would do it?

When I did this more than 2 years ago, the CSR transferred me to Tech support.
Did it with just the 1 phone call and no mistakes. But we did not request to change name of Main account holder's caller id. It is just 2nd and 3rd line wanted their own names on the caller id. When each line logs onto the account, it will say welcome Joe or Mary or whaterever the first name of the person of that line but caller id shows the whole Joe Smith or Mary Smith.

So if they change this to Wireless user or unknown and when you long onto your Sprint.com, will it say Welcome Unknown or whatever name is associated with caller ID?

Freak4Dell

If they change the account holder's name to Wireless User, it will show as Wireless User on the website. If they change just the caller ID display name, like you ask them to, it will only change your display name.

I tried to change my caller id like 2 years ago and the Sprint Rep told me they wouldn't do it.

Is this because i only have 1 line? It seems all of you people have more than 1 line thats why they are willing to do this for you.

Freak4Dell
07-30-2007, 10:47 PM
You usually go through technical support to do it. Whether you only have 1 line or not shouldn't matter.

Had mine changed about a year ago, took the guy at the sprint store about 5 min to change it to my nickname.

something else to consider is, and i didn't realize it til i had to have the display name changed on my phone, sometimes the phone company of the person you are calling won't update their systems and will keep the old display name.
For example, whenever I first got my number and I would call someone in charlotte, nc the name that would appear would be the previous account holder. When I called my Wireless Carrier at the time to have this changed, they said the display name was "PCS Caller." The rep told me that sometimes the end users phone company won't update their records for Caller ID's for several months or so. And told me to have the person I'm calling to call their phone company and request a Caller ID Cache purge or something lol.. Sounded very strange to me, but once my friend did that, the correct display ID started showing up.
hope that makes sense!

i have a primary line plus 2 additional lines. my name appears on all lines. i was told that i can have "wireless caller" appear or my first initial and last name or first name and last initial. i thought i can have "unknown id" appear along with the phone number. am i able to have only the number appear with unknown id ?

Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/3.1.8295/1690; en; U; ssr))

I changed mine to wireless caller, it now displays as "caller, wireless" as if caller was my last name and wireless my first.
