View Full Version : Random Gmail Questions

Well, since we recently were able to install the latest firm/software update for the m610, which now allows the use of Gmail on the phone, I have a couple questions, as a first time gmail user.

#1 Is there a way to have your phone alert you when new mail comes in? I have sent test emails from my PC to the phone... and no alert. I have to randomly check to see if mail has come in. Obviously, an alert would really be nice.

#2 When writing a message, t9 won't auto cap the beginning of each sentence, and I have to hit the space button twice for one space, is this normal?

#3 It's great to be able to receive/forward attachments, like photo's ect, but can I send similar attachments like photos from my phone, or retrieve pics or emails from my PC to phone to see/send?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

i used gmail app on my a900 and now like you on my 610. i'll take a crack at your questions.

1: i'm not a 100% sure but i don't think so. it would be a great feature though

2: the t9 i don't know to much about. i don't know if there is a real fix to it. i remember that before i (m)odified my a900 i did not have to press the space button twice. after word though, with the new t9 i did.

3: it would be really great if you could, but you can't. at least not on the 610 or any of the other samaung phones. maybe on some of the PDA phones you can. i would really like to do this because it's a nice short cut around pic mail. it's a no go though.

Thanks for your reply. Gmail is still a nice thing to have, and, well, it's free isn't it. :)

Not directly. But if the sprint mail app can be used, it should be possible to set gmail up as a pop account and go that way.

I just use the gmail app and check randomly, but forwarding the mail to your sprint account is the only way I could think of also

if you create a forwarder in gmail and have it forward a copy to

'your ten digit phone number'@messaging.sprintpcs.com

it should tell you right away(or at least as fast as gmail polls mail and sprint's system works)

it only forwards a copy and you can configure what happens with the original
i'm not sure why anyone would have problems with this

And with the new Power Vision plans there is free pic mail so set it up to send it to:
yournameoremailforsprinthere@pm.sprint.com
