I have spent the last couple of days reading through posts, and I'm still at a loss of what to do. Since there are many more experienced users here I would like to ask for advice on what would be the best recommended course for me to take.
I have the 400 minutes plan for $39, and a $10 picture mail option, and the total bill with taxes is about $55. I have a Samsung A920 which I won from a contest. My contract should be up in a month or so, so I'm looking for the best option.
The 400 minutes was fine, but now since I don't have a home phone and use it for conference calls I need to up my minutes severely. I have made several attempts to switch to the SERO plan but have failed, because the $50 SERO plan would be perfect. I would also like a Motorola Q.
Is it possible to sign up for a new SERO plan after my contract expires, or would a better option be just letting my contract run out, and let my wife get it in her name. Or do I have a chance at getting a somewhat good deal with retentions?
Thank you for any advice you can provide.

So yeah, it will be hard for you to beat a SERO plan, seriously. (my plan does, depending on how u look at it).
You would be silly to not go after Retentions in a month when your contract is up. So you want to get a line for your wife as well? i'd call them up, tell them you need a great family plan and 2 new phones. If you're nice, if you pay your bills on time, alot is possible.
Whether you get a shared retention plan, or just get a nicer deal on a single line, don't throw away the loyalty on that line. It will pay you in the long run. Hell, you could sign up for SERO online in a month and then have both accounts put on the same bill, if you wanted.

Yes, bargain with them. Ask them if they do price matches and say that Verizon is offering you the Moto Q. for a cheaper price and also ask them to keep your discounts(if you have any).

Thanks for the responses. I really wasn't looking for a shared plan, I was just thinking of having my wife sign up for SERO since she has no Sprint accounts. However, your point about keeping loyalty on the current line makes much sense.
If I can just get some more minutes and a Q at a reasonable price I would be happy. I don't think I'm asking too much.

Once your contract expires call them up and ask them "when does my contract expire". Once they tell you, they would most likely ask you to renew it. So you yes, and ask them if you do renew if they are willing to give you a good price on the Moto Q. If you like the price go with it, if not tell them you want to cancel. When they transfer you to retentions tell them that your wife has been with Verizon for quite some time and they are offering you the Moto Q for less. You got to play around with them ;]. And also mention that you would add another line of service right now, if they give you a good price.

I agree 100% with keeping a line to build loyalty. It's been my experience Sprint loves loyal customers, for the most part. Churn kills a business, loyal customers build it!
My favorite story (there are many) with retentions is calling them several years ago when my first contract was up with Sprint. They agreed to stack over 500 anytime minutes onto my old plan. To THIS day I still have those same minutes added onto my Sero plan plus another 140 anytime minutes they gave me more recently! Stay with Sprint and you will be rewarded.
The other carriers don't give a sh*t, you get their stock plans or you get the boot!

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I called and spoke to a very nice lady. She gave me a Q for $50, bumped my minutes up a lot for just a few bucks more, and gave me %10 off my bill.
Not too bad since I didn't need much to begin with.
