Been with Sprint a long while now. My latest contract is up in Aug 07'. I recently received a notice in the mail saying that if I choose to re-up for 2 more years, Sprint will give me 10% off my monthly bill. Add this to the fact I recently got a job at Circuit City where they offer all employees 20% their monthly VERIZON bill and half price accessories.

Hmmm.... Let's see what Sprint can REALLY do for me. So I call Sprint customer care and asked to be transfered straight to the retentions department. They did without hassle. I told the Sprint representative about the flier and about the Verizon discount through circuit city. I told him I was willing to resign a contract if they could give me a percentage off my bill. He calculated a total deal for me:
450 Anytime w/ nights at 7pm
Free Sprint to Sprint
Unlimited Text Messaging
$42 a month
That's 22% off the price I was previously paying! Yes I realize all plans now include free mobile to mobile, meaning he probably actually gave me 15% off. But its more minutes than I had, starting at 7pm vice 9pm and its still a chunk cheaper. Next, I asked if he could get me a deal on a new Sanyo 8400. He told me I'm only due for $75, but he'll give me $100 off plus waive the upgrade fee. Awesome.... Figured I could sell my 8300 for 50 bucks, so I took him up on the offer. But it gets better.

TOTALLY FORGOT TO HAVE ME RE-SIGN MY CONTRACT!!!!!!! I guess we were talking so long (About 20-25 minutes really) that it just slipped his mind! So basically, I got a fair deal on a new phone and got a great deal on my plan..... just for calling and being nice. I'm happy.

If you are more than 3 months into your agreement and make a plan change, you likely re-signed your contract. Sprint doesn't need a paper signature to get your implied consent under the terms and conditions.

Basically, if your agreement wasnt renewed, be happy. If it was, you got a benefit of renewal in the terms of a discounted phone plus a better deal on your plan.

I would check my Manage account with Sprint to see if they changed your renewl date. Usually when you talk to retentions they will ask you if we do ABC are you willing to renew your contract for two years and if you state yes, then your contract will automatically be re-newed.

Being nice has always been the way. Presenting the facts and not going over the top. Good job. By the way, how do you like the Sanyo SCP8400. We just signed with Sprint for 4 SCP8400 phones via LetsTalk.com. Got the 4 phones for free. After 4 or 5 months, I have rebates for $50 per phone to claim. So far, I like the 8400 although I was used to Nextel with their bigger phones, I have to get used to holding on to the Sanyo in fear if I drop it, it will shatter. My Nextel I530 was a work horse.
