hello all,
i just registered for this site and i think its a wonderful thing. any way now to the point. i had been reading about the sero plan for a few weeks now and i decided to go for it and switch from veriz*n to sprint. i went into the store and let the rep know i wanted the sero 500 plan along with the moto Q. he got me the phone but he said the reps had been flagged too many times for giving out the sero plan and that i would have to contact e-care to enroll in the plan. i went home and attempted to do so and was unable to. in a round about way i cam to the conclusion that i need to go into the store cancel everything and return the moto q and re-sign up online at sprint.com/sero. thats fine and all but the real question here is should i get the moto Q or the samsung a900. i've seen several threads giving praise to the a900 saying that you can do so many things with it. the a900 IS capable of sprint tv and power vision, right? so, the bottom line, should i get the samsung a900 or the moto Q?

depends if you want a pda or not. a900m is solid.. but its a bit older. the m610 is sorta the "replacement".

yes the a900/m has sprint tv and PV... the Q has PV but does NOT have sprint tv.

Q is a great choice IF you want a pda. if you wouldnt take advantage of the pda... the Q is def not for you and stick to a standard flip like the a900m/m610.

Comparing the two phones is like compairing apples and oranges.

Do you need a keyboard? That should answer your question

BTW...Welcome to SU!

i know i would enjoy having the keyboard especially for texting. also for the internet. do u use the internet on ur phone even though u dont have a keyboard? can u adapt easily to using a regular keypad for texting? do you think the m610 is better than the a900m? :1zhelp:

why dont you go to a sprint store and play with both. I have had the Q for a month, and I dont know if I can ever go back to a non smart phone again. I didn't use text messeging before this phone, b/c I didnt like T9. I sent more messages last month than all last year. I also never used internet before the Q, although I had it for free, b/c I didnt have EVDO. With the exception of forums, you don't do a lot of typing on the internet, so the keypad isnt a huge improvement, but the bigger screen is really nice. I love the calander to schedule all my appoitments and be able to look at a glace when I work next week, and its always with me.

I think for the most part, if you have had a PDA before, you will probably find the Q lacking. If you havent its a nice step up, and most people love it. Plus, get it for a good price, and if you dont like it you can trade it for any standard sprint phone pretty easily. Go to a sprint store, and give it time, and you might just fall in love.

Its not perfect, but its good.

If I had to choose, it would be the Q. :)

Yep, its all on how you like each phone, and what you want to do with it.

Read reviews of the phones, both on here and on other sites (google works great to find reviews) and then go play with them at the store.

You are the only person who can decide which phone is right for you :)

The Q is a whole lot bigger than the A900m. A whole lot. It can make the difference between sliding it into your pocket and carrying it on a holster if you can't make space for it in your pocket.

That said, I'm getting the Q. I'm coming from a T-Mobile SDA, which is smaller in width but has a really cramped keypad and is much thicker. The Q isn't that big compared to the SDA. The slim size helps.

If you think you'll use the keyboard and Windows Mobile features (which aren't too many) you should get the Q. Otherwise the A900M is pretty cool when set up with Gmail, google maps and Opera Mini (which i have yet to download). The Sprint TV works well, as does the Sprint Music Store. But both of those applications aren't going to replace encoded DivXs and mp3s on your Q, unless you pay quite a lot of money to Sprint.

I would get the A900m, keep it for a week, call Sprint and tell them about how happy you are with the phone but you'd like to take advantage of the 30 day guarantee and exchange it for an M610 (since the M610 isn't available on the SERO site). Worked like a charm... and the M610 is an awesome phone. :)

As far as a PDA, like someone said above, the Q is lacking. I had it for about three weeks and couldn't stand it. At first it was a nice upgrade from a flip phone, but in a couple days I realized it lacked many features that are generally standard on ANY phone (adjusting backlight brightness, for example).

in ur reply you said that gmail, google maps, and opera mini were all great. i have never used any of them on a phone, how are they, besides just great? i didnt mean for that to sound rude... i'm just really curious. and in case ur wondering i went a head and got the a900m. i ordered it yesterday and it should be here tomorrow after noon. you also said you liked sprint tv. do you know if sprint tv is included in the sero plan? i know unlimited sprint power vision is but does that include sprint tv? the main thing is does it include the live sprint tv?? i think thats just about the sweetest thing! thanks for your time.
Hey D, Gmail is a very well-written app and there's a lot of functions in there, even though its a Java app. Not to mention its easier to configure and has more features than the POP3 version you would otherwise use.

Opera is also a well-featured browser - its like the difference between IE and Firefox. Google maps is nice for viewing traffic and getting ad-hoc directions.

All of Sprint TV is not free, but a couple of preview channels are. Basically only good for showing off.

The moto Q is the biggest piece of crap known to man. I don't know if Motorola just doesn't care anymore or what but lately all their products stink. The Q's being shipped to Sprint have year and a half old batteries in them which is causing them to not power up past the windows mobile boot screen! So far I would have to say that 7 out of 10 customers have brought theirs back because of some sort of problem. Get a treo and save yourself the troubles. :fingers:

This isn't becoming a Q vs Treo thread. The OP asked between an a900m and a Q, which he should get.

Moto is replacing (apparently) the bad batteries. When most any phone comes out, their are bugs, hence why ots not the a900 the OP is talking about, but the a900m

I wasn't trying to turn it into a treo thread, I dont own one, don't use one, I have played with them and it all goes back to the old saying that the proof is in the pudding. I'm sorry but the Q is over rated and is just a fad right now. And as far as battery replacements, my service center is NOT giving them out due to the fact that they are indeed dated a year and a half old and a battery is considered an accessory and as anyone knows sprint's accessories have a 1 year warranty...Better get on the phone and say HELLOMOTO! :music:

Well, I have owned both and I would say it is up to what your needs are. But if I had to choose again I would say Q 100%. The Q IS NOT a piece of crap. yes there was an issue with the batteries being old but that has noting to do with the functionality of the Q. Besides if you call motorola they will replace the battery. Atleast that is what has happened in several cases. You have to be nice about it. With every new phone that comes out there is bound to be some dort of bug. No phone is perfect not even the Treo (owned 2 of those as well).

To the OP, don't go soley on what is said here, go in and play around with both phones like was said earlier. And BTW, about the Live TV. You don't actually get LIVE TV as if you were watching it at home. It is only clips. Actual LIVE TV will not be available for a while. PER SPRINT empoyee.
