View Full Version : Help me erase my MM9000

I've got this Sanyo MM9000. I will be selling it to a buddy in a few weeks. I need to erase it totally and completely before I get rid of it. Text messages, pictures, everything needs to be completely gone.

I tried going to the "Security" menu from the main menu. I tried going to all the obvious places on the phone. When I hook the phone up with Bit Pim, however, the pictures and texts are still there. How the heck do I get rid of everything once and for all?

If it's not something that can be posted, please PM me and let me know. I'm paranoid about letting this phone leave my hands unless I know it's been totally purified!

This should be in the Sanyo subforum.

Anywho... have you tried

##786# - Phone Usage & Master Reset (##RTN#)

?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (MobilePhone SCP-M1/US/1.0) NetFront/3.3 MMP/2.0)

You can erase the texts and pictures by going in the text menu and erase all messages and under pictures erase all.

I did try that, and it still comes up when I hook up to Bit Pim.

If the person I was selling the phone to wasn't so phone savvy, I wouldn't worry so much.

incriminating pictures on the phone? j/k :)

Why not take a bunch of boring pics till the memory is full, and then erase em? At worst, your friend see's stupid things like a coke can 20 times :) I think sometimes its like deleting things on a PC, it just deletes the directory untill written over

Ahh Dan! Well, ya know, things happen between adults! HeeeHeee J/K.

Okay so the ##786# worked for the pictures. The text is still there, however. Anyone else have any ideas?

Well, I was hoping it would. There's nothing in the texts that would be offensive or anything, I just don't like the thought of someone I know being able to access that kind of stuff about me. I'm so super private that it really freaks me out.

Well, at least I got rid of the pictures! There were some pictures on here from the PREVIOUS owner that were a bit questionable, so I'm glad they are gone.

your friendly neighborhood sprint store (with tech) might know what to tell you on removing the text messages.

I assume they are "read only" files and nothing you could edit on your PC?

How old are the text messages that are remaining? If they are recent just send obscure ones to yourself to overwrite them.

I don't know how old the text messages are, as most are from the previous owners. Two area codes and two owners ago it seems.

##786# > Reset Default > Enter MSL

This will clear ALL phone data on your 9000 back to factory defaults, and is what any good tech at a Sprint Store would do anyway. :)

As I posted, I tried that, and it cleared the photos, but not the texts. But thanks anyway!

you'd be surprised how much info is stored onthese phones that cant be erased.

only way to truely erase everything is to have a tech reflash it to new.

##786# resets most stuff.. but looking at it in qpst/bitpim/etc shows past texts, picture info, vision info, contact lists....

samsungs have a master reset via test mode which works WAY better than ##786# but thats not 100% perfect either.

sucks dont it?

Well, thanks! I'm not so bothered by these texts, now that I can see it's not mine that are being saved! I'm not sure why it's choosing to save what it is, but whatever. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help!
