View Full Version : 8400's microSD: What's it good for?!

Just upgraded from a Sanyo PM-8200 (a lovely phone) to a scp-8400. Initially, I was excited, not being a Vision subscriber the option of a having a microSD card to upload music files for ringtones and pics for wallpapers was a big plus.

Too bad things aren't working out as I thought they would. For starters:

1) From studying the forums, apparently you can't use uploaded music files (mp3, midi) as ringtones on this phone. I've got an iPod, what use do I have for music on my cell?

2) After formatting the microSD and creating the folders, I've had no success transferring picture files to the phone. I've created wallpapers at the 240x320 ratio, loaded them on the microSD in .jpg format using the USB cord into the DCIM folder, but they refuse to show up on the phone. I know they're there, because when I connect the phone to the PC I can pull them back out of the folder in Windows Explorer.

Any advice? What do you use your microSD card for?

use the micro sd card for pictures you use on the phone. Also, ditch the ipod and just use the cell phone, much more conveniant. You can also use the memory card like a flash drive if you need to transfer information between two locations. As for pictures and ringtones, make your own and use the focus tool here to get those files on your phone. Just make what you want, pony up the 15.00 or call and get it one month free and get all you want on there and then have the vision removed.

What's it good for? Nothing.

I bought a 1 gig card for $15, and all I have on it are photos, movies, and mp3's. As you can see it was a complete waste of money.

I use mine for photos, video and mp3's. I have an ipod as well, but just keep an extra pair of earbuds in my jacket pocket, and when I don't have my ipod, I use my cell phone. The ipod is larger, and there are unexpected times when I didn't expect to use it and forgot to bring it, thats when my phone fills in.

Best use: recording videos of decent length. 30 seconds isn't a lot of time, but when saving to the card you have MUCH more flexability.

how about the fact that you can save your phone contacts to the microsd card and save the contacts file to your pc in case u lose your phone it will be on your pc. or i had my phone's motherboard short out and i just simply took my microsd card and put it in my new phone and uploaded the contacts. I didn't lose alot of my important #'s this way. also, you can watch movies, listen to music, or just store important files and documents to the card and have it as a backup or easy portable device instead of a usb flash drive or a burnt cd. the uses for the microsd card on the 8400 are priceless.

i also use it for whats been mentioned above. i also take alot of pictures at work and send them to the office so i can relay what i see in the field.since i hate sending from the phone to email addresses and them having to get the sprint link. i take the card out ,put in the adapter and put on pc and can send regular attachments.

I've had no problems loading backgrounds from files on the microSD. Just go through the Display settings - Screen Savers - My Albums and pick the file you want from you SD. This will change the main background. If you are talking about changing the background file behind the menus, then I'm not sure how to do that.

I have the Sanyo 8400 also. How do you back up your contacts on the microsd card. I seem to be doing something wrong because its one of the few things I havent figured out yet.

Same for me - last four digits. I think you can change it under the Security settings.

Are you talking about Sprint music? You can move your music to the media folder and play it from there. Atleast you can with the 9k.

- You can take a video of up to 120 minutes. I took a powerplug along and recorded a whole presentation.
- You can save $5/month with Power Vision Access instead of Plus by transferring your photos to a computer and sending/posting them wherever you want instead of using picture mail.
- You can take movies to watch at boring affairs.
- you can put your desk telephone on speaker and record up to an 8 hour conversation of with Sprint CS, frineds or business associates. (the manual says your limited to 72 seconds, but that limit changed to the limit of space on your card).

Just crank the webcam up in a room full of hot women and let it run.

There are other specific threads I've seen too, but you'll have to search for them.
