They want to hold onto us loyal customers!
you know what this means! :tu:

"We have established a framework to bolster our business operations and drive future growth and profitability," said CEO Gary Forsee in a Wednesday morning press release. "Our efforts in 2007 will be centered on improving subscriber acquisition and retention, extending our lead in data services, fully capturing cost efficiencies and developing an innovative high-speed data network that will provide significant differentiation and cost advantages."

...Wall Street tends to place a greater value on postpaid subscribers, who usually are more loyal and pay more.

... Post-paid churn, reflecting customer defections, was 2.3%, compared with 2.4% in the third quarter and 2.1% in the fourth quarter a year ago. The increase from the year-ago period is due to higher churn among iDEN subscribers. The sequential improvement is due to lower churn within the CDMA base offset by higher churn in former Nextel Partners markets.

Are we clearly seeing that Nextel was a mistake & we overpaid basically for the subs & nothing more? We could have save money & bought Alltell who is more of an infrastructure match.

I think your analysis of the pre merger companies inaccurate. :td: Nextel was a smaller company yes but it was far more profitable, cash rich, debt poor. It was highest in ARPU above Sprint and Verizon, had the second lowest customer churn rate (the year before merger was announced) second only to Verizon by only 2 tenths of a point, and over T mobile and Sprint was dead last in that category. Nextel while leading the way of rabanding to help with public safety bandwidths it acquired a very large valuable (in the $billion range) chunk of 1900 so much so that Verizon tried to stop it by suing and losing. It was seen as a way to exponentially increase Sprint's industry leading data products. In conclusion Nextel was a very juicy merger target for a larger debt fat and low earnings combined with the highest churn rate for two years prior to merger aka "Acquisition" due mainly of its customer care and unfriendly retail policies.

I don't know about data. How about just being able to make a call in Boston or Washington DC. Sprint is dead last in most surveys of call reliability. If they don't fix the basics, the data thing won't matter. Can't download from a phone that isn't connecting.

(It's all a charade to sell stock, in y opinion, so Verizon will buy them out at an inflated price.)

(I'm a long time Sprint customer - but I've been watching Sprint go from first to worst for the last five years - yikes!)
