View Full Version : How to EASILY get GOOD ringtones on your Sanyo M1

Okay, so I literally spent like 4 hours searching this site and many others trying to find a way to get a GOOD ringtone onto a Sanyo M1. The general consensus on this is to switch it to a ".QCP" file. I found that when you do this you make it sound like complete crap. I promise you that you don't have to do this. The M1 will accept a ".MP4". After working at it for what seemed like forever here's what I found:

Go and download (yes it's free) Wavepad at: http://www.nch.com.au/wavepad/

when you download, it should give you an option to also download the "Switch" software. This will allow you to save to more file formats.

Simply use any program to transfer any .MP3 on your computer into a .WAV file. I used MusicMatch Jukebox but thats just because I already had it. Then open the .WAV with Wavepad. You can then use Wavepad to trim down the file to about 30 seconds. Any longer is pointless since your voicemail will pick up by then. Once you've chopped it down to what you want go to EDIT > SELECT ALL. Then go to EFFECTS > NORMALIZE. Set that to 80%. Then go to EFFECTS > HIGH PASS FILTER. Set that to 160. This will take out the bass that will blow some cell phone speakers. Now go to FILE > SAVE FILE AS. Name your file and save it as a MPEG4 audio (*.M4A) (yes it is a bigger file...but a better file too). Set it at Average Bit Rate. Now 128 sounds good but you can use smaller. Just remember that the smaller the file, the lower the quality. YOU'RE DONE! Now just come back here and use the FOCUS tool at the top of the page to send it to your phone. BIKITY BAM, new ringtone.

yes..this thread was posted in multiple areas. I'm sorry to anyone who I may have pissed off by doing this. I had to search for a long time to get a decent answer to a very simple question. The search is so vague that I was bombarded with useless information. I figured I'd save other people the trouble. Don't worry....there will be no more posts from me because I see what happens when you try to help.

Helping isn't considered post whoring. Thanks for the contribution, I'm sure many will find it useful now & later on!

umm, you could have just looked in the faq section, theres a post on how to make mp4 ringers. and its not that hard to use the search. maybe type in "mp4 ringers" or "high quality ringers"

I do something similar only I use itunes (I'm not an itunes subscriber either). I just upload the mp3 to itunes, cut it to 30 seconds or so, save it as an AAC/.M4A file and then use the focus upload tool to send it to my phone. The ringers sound great. MUCH better than the .qcp file or even the video ringers that I've tried making.

I dunno.. I kind of agree that the search function on here is kinda weak.

super weak. I had to do about 20 searches for: "ringtones" "music ringtones" "sanyo" "M1" and so on. Most of what comes up is people griping about what they wish they're phone did.

The easiest way IMO is to upload the mp3 files (or m4a/aac files) to itunes, edit the length and then save it as a AAC/m4a file. All with the itunes software. Then, just use the focus tool uploader to send it to your phone.

You don't have to have to have an ipod or use itunes to use it either. Just download the software and use it. I have a Sandisk Sansa mp3 player that doesn't use m4a files, so I have no use for iTunes other than editing the ringtones for my phone.

Im wondering what the hard way to make ringers is. No matter what programs you use its still the same process. split/convert/upload away! :p

Well.. I just mentioned itunes because it's free an accessible to anyone. All you have to have is the itunes software an mp3, aac or m4a file and you can make a ringer.

it is the "easy" way because you don't have to piece together the info in 15 seperate threads to make it work and sound good. I downloaded about 10 programs that people said would work and none of them did. Still the same number of steps but they are tested and proven.

Is there software out there that adjusts the volume of the files? I tried adjusting the volume with iTunes, but the only thing that it affects is the volume that is played in iTunes. It doesn't seem to make the ringer louder once I upload it to the phone.

Use WavePad. The free version has many options.

The m1 can use mp3s as ringtones. Just convert them to 64kbps.

Itunes does make it louder when you take off sound check from preferences->playback. then right click on the song and select get info.then from options turn volume adjustment up as far as it will go without it sounding distorted. also under that menu you can mess with the equalizer (I usually use treble booster since it doesn't take out all the bass and makes it sound clearer at higher volumes). hope it works for you. :headbang2

That's exactly the point I believe. They want to sell you ringtones at $3 a pop or at the very least sell you internet.

If you're referring to the MP3's that you load on your phone via the USB cable to listen to, the answer is no. You have to use an uploader.
