DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Jeff Gordon's winning racecar in Thursday's Gatorade Duels 150 qualifying race failed post-race inspection, dropping him from fourth to 42nd on the starting grid for Sunday's Daytona 500.
Gordon's car was deemed "close to an inch" too low, according to NASCAR officials, due to the fact that a bolt on the shock fastener was misaligned.
"We're sure this wasn't intentional," said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition.
No fines or point deductions will be assessed to the No. 24 team, according to Pemberton.
Despite the infraction, Gordon still goes into the record books as the qualifying race winner.
Gordon is a three-time Daytona 500 winner.

I think NASCAR is saying saying that in the past we told you to stop the infractons and this year there maikeing there point. As long as they keep there decisions consistant then it's a good thing, but if they change the penelties for each driver then it wn't be any good. The cheating dose need to stop but in the past NASCAR has made different penilties for different drivers.

Let's just say this... I'd rather be the 24 team right noe then the 55... They will need to finish 21st just to get back to 0. I honestly don't see that happening. Even if Michael wins the race and leads the most laps he will have 90 pts going into California putting him around 17th in points. Normally the winner of the Daytona 500 (being the first race of the season) will be leading the points going into race #2.
