So it sounds like GPS functionality is going to be a main selling point with this phone.
Is to be assumed that this phone will have a built in navigation system that doesn’t require any sort of extra recurring subscription charge?
I don’t really understand GPS in phones. Most all phones have the Location/GPS option that can be turned on and off. When it is on, the phone isn’t really detected the United States military’s GPS satellite signals is it? I’ve heard things about phones using triangulation from the towers to come up with an approximate location.
Will the 7050 actually detect GPS satellite signals? – it is described as having “autonomous GPS.”
Can anyone explain?

well...I dont like the look either, but it has a market for sure. Sprint needs a mil spec sanyo with all the ppl coming over from Nextel. The 7000 is/was a flop. This one looks plenty rugged enough. Give it a few nice features and people will buy it.

Looks are subjective, But to me this has to be the ugliest phone I've seen for a few weeks.

I must agree. Though it's not very pleasing to the eye, there is a market out there for a phone like this. It's geared towards people that don't really care how their phone looks as long as it functions as a phone and can take a beating.

What exactly makes a phone Mil-Spec?

protecting against rain, dust, dirt and shock, and snow
basically the phone that can take abuse with the added knowledge of not needing TEP

Is it my imagination, or does anyone else think that an engineer saw Star Wars around the same time as designing the phone? It looks like Darth Vader's helmet, or for the Mel Brooks fans, Dark Helmet..
