well, i stumbled on su a couple months ago more or less, and since then it's like there's a whole world out there i never knew existed. the things that are possible with portable devices...i had no idea!

this concept of tethering your computer with a power vision plan is simply awesome. so i've been reading as much as i can here and in hofo, following posted links, etc., and i'm left with a couple questions. i'm sure to some of you out there they will seem ridiculous, but for real, many many posts simply talk about doing such and such, but no info on the how-did-you-get-to-the-point-of-being-ready-to-do-such-and-such-in the-first-place.

-all these things like getting into your phone's files and such, that you're actually doing that from your pc, with the phone hooked up to it, correct?

-if this is correct, where do i learn how the hooking-up part is done? i know that there's mpt4 for moto handsets, but there are a lot of phone mfgrs.

-i assume the procedure isn't necessarily the same for pc as it is for mac, and since i'm a mac user, that's what i would want to learn first. the phone i intend to use is the m610 (which i assume can be 'adapted' to use as modem in the same way as the a900?).

any comments, explanations, links etc. that will address these questions would be much appreciated.

to enable the free phone as modem(with vision plan) is all done thru the phones menus... you could tether via usb cable or bluetooth. usb cables for the m610 are like 10 bucks shipped (if that!) on ebay.

extra file editing(hacking/game,ringtone,application extracting/etc) is usually done via QPST(not MAC friendly) and the usb cable. another alternative to qpst is bitpim.. altho im not sure how much of the m610 file system bitpim will show.

ok, didn't expect that answer...

there was one thread i saw, which detailed how to use 900 as modem, and it involved getting the samsung modem driver off their website. i didn't think you could use your phone to download in that fashion. so wouldn't that mean doing the download, then loading it onto the phone from the computer, and *then* doing whatever (like the disable nai part) on the phone, then configuring the computer to recognize the new device, then actually connecting...or something like that?

i suppose the samsung phone menus are different from the moto menus--i have a v3m right now but do *not* like it and want to switch to m610 b4 my 30 days are up--so if i had a samsung model i'd recognise when something done on the phone is being described, versus something done from the computer with the phone hooked up. i hope so anyway...

still and all, are there any tutorials out there on this stuff?
